Are We In Danger Of Planet X?

Recently, modern science has revealed the existence of a new large planet.
Is it Planet X? Very possible. Because, it is just on the edge of our solar system. This planet is about four times larger than Earth. The interesting thing is that the planet has an elliptical orbit and the opposite rotation around the axis of all the other planets. Planet X, also, enters our solar system every 3600 years. This should happen in 2012.
The early people named Planet X as Nibiru in Sumerian, and Marduk in Babylonian. It has been said that the ancient Mesopotamians believed that Nibiru was the twelfth planet in our solar system and that it was "heaven" where their gods resided and came from.
Nibiru is a planet-sized object that was first observed moving toward our solar system in the 1980s by scientists, although most scientists deny its existence. It is believed, by some people, that Nibiru will either collide with the Earth or come close enough to cause catastrophic destruction.

Powerful solar flare to cause magnetic storm on Earth

A powerful solar flare was registered today, NASA specialists said. The flare can trigger a strong magnetic storm on Earth, they said. It will become the second magnetic storm this year. The first one was registered on January 22-23.

Red-hot plasma is on the way to our planet. It will reach Earth at about 6 p.m. MSK, scientists said. The Earth's magnetic field will protect the planet - the power of the storm will thus be moderate. However, it may cause malfunctions in the work of satellites and other systems of communication. The storm will not pose any danger to the crew of the International Space Station.

NASA observes the solar activity with the help of the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO), the Solar Dynamics Observatory and the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), Vesti.Ru reports.

The data received from SOHO and STEREO observatories said that the flow of plasma would strike a strong blow on the magnetic field of the Earth in the area of the North Pole on January 24-25, NASA officials said.

Experts from Russia's EMERCOM earlier predicted the further increase of the solar activity in 2012. Eight strong magnetic storms may occur this year. "Separate periods of high solar activity are likely to occur in the first half of 2012. A large number of powerful solar flares, including proton flares, may occur," officials with the ministry said.

Bat Signal: More than 5 Million Bats Dead From White-Nose Syndrome

Bats in the Northeastern U.S. are dying by the millions of white-nose fungus.

An animal apocalypse is happening right beneath our noses in the Northeast. Since 2006, bats throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New Jersey, Indiana and other states have been infected with a deadly white-nose fungus that has decimated animal populations. But because it is hard to track bat numbers—and because the disease causes afflicted bats to act strangely, often flying far from their nests where they may never be found—it’s been difficult to pin down just how severe the disease has become.
A new estimate released yesterday by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), however, suggests that the toll is far worse than wildlife biologists believed. Between 5.7 million and 6.7 million bats are estimated to have died from white-nose fungus—five to six times more than a previous count done in 2009. Unless the bats can adapt to the fungus—or a treatment can be found—there is a real change that many bat species could be virtually wiped out in the Northeast, with serious consequences for the ecology of the region.
Mylea Bayless of the wildlife group Bat Conservation International laid out the consequences of the disease to Darryl Fears of the Washington Post:

We’re watching a potential extinction event on the order of what we experienced with bison and passenger pigeons for this group of mammals.
The difference is we may be seeing the regional extinction of multiple species. Unlike some of the extinction events or population depletion events we’ve seen in the past, we’re looking at a whole group of animals here, not just one species. We don’t know what that means, but it could be catastrophic.

Catastrophic for the bats, obviously, but possibly for us as well. Bats are voracious insectavores—a single female bat of reproductive age can consume her weight in insects each night. Take away the bats and those insects may thrive—including agricultural pests that can ruin crops, as FWS director Dan Ashe says:

This startling new information illustrates the severity of the threat that white-nose syndrome poses for bats, as well as the scope of the problem facing our nation. Bats provide tremendous value to the U.S. economy as natural pest control for American farms and forests every year, while playing an essential role in helping to control insects that can spread disease to people.

More than 140 partners from the government and academic institutions met last week to plan a response to white-nose syndrome, but there’s been little progress made in the years since the disease was first discovered. One hope may lay with European bats—they were infected with a similar fungus but have managed to survive, and could provide clues to controlling the disease. But scientists need to hurry—time is running out for bats.

A new year, a new set of dead birds and dead fish.
Beebe, Arkansas rang in the new year with about 100 dead blackbirds falling from the sky. According to the Associated Press, blackbirds began "flying into objects and each other," reminiscent of the year before, where thousands of birds died after crashing into objects.
Over in Europe, another dead animal mystery unfolded. AP reported that on Kvaenes beach in Norway, an estimated 20 tons of dead herring washed ashore on New Year's Eve. And then, the tens of thousands of dead fish vanished.
These seemingly unusual animal deaths spark memories of the mass casualties in early 2011. Beyond last year's dead birds that fell from the sky in Arkansas (and other regions), millions of dead fish surfaced in Maryland, over 10,000 cows and buffalo died in Vietnam, and tens of thousands of dead crabs washed ashore in the U.K.
Although multiple theories emerged on the string of deadly events, many members of authority maintained that the deaths were probably unrelated.
Despite conspiracy theories over what could have caused birds and fish to die this year, probable explanations have already been provided for both of these cases.
Fireworks are to blame for the odd behavior of birds of Beebe, Arkansas, report local authorities. According to AP, Beebe police Lt. Brian Duke said officials asked residents to stop setting off fireworks once the birds began acting strangely, and there was even evidence that a blackbird roost was targeted this year with fireworks.
As for the vanishing herring, it's suspected that the fish were forced ashore by predators or a large storm. Jens Christian Holst of Norway's Institute of Marine Research told AP that the fish probably simply washed back into the sea.

Brazil, Sweden and New Zealand hit with strange phenomena as speculation rages

The mass bird and fish die-offs that have affected parts of the U.S. over the last week have now gone global, with Sweden, Brazil and New Zealand becoming the latest countries to experience a phenomena that has sparked both scientific intrigue and apocalyptic panic in equal measure.

Following the sudden deaths of thousands of birds that fell over Beebe Arkansas on New Year’s Eve, in addition to 100,000 dead fish found along a 20-mile stretch between the Ozark Dam and Highway 109 Bridge in Franklin County, 500 dead blackbirds and starlings were subsequently discovered in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana.

Large numbers of dead birds were also found in Kentucky around Christmas and more were found in the following days. Earlier this week, tens of thousands of small fish were found washed up in the Chesapeake Bay area. Despite their deaths being blamed on a cold snap, experts are bewildered that the fish didn’t swim to warmer waters as would be their normal response.

In a separate report emailed to us by an Alex Jones Show listener, more dead birds were seen near St. Louis, Missouri.

“I just wanted to let Alex now that I encountered over a hundred blackbirds killed on Christmas Day. This was about 30 miles south of St. Louis, MO near highway 55. The intersection was covered with them,” states the email.

The phenomenon has now gone global, with dead jackdaw birds falling to their deaths across central Sweden shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

In New Zealand, hundreds of dead snapper have washed up on Coromandel beaches. The fish looked fat and healthy, ruling out the weather or starvation as a cause of death.

“People at Little Bay and Waikawau Bay, on the north-east of the peninsula, were stunned when children came out of the sea with armfuls of the fish and within minutes the shore was littered with them,” reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Meanwhile, in Brazil, 100 tons of fish (sardine, croaker and catfish) have turned up dead off the coast of Parana over the course of the last week.

“Apart from Paranagua, (Edmir Manoel) Ferreira said the dead fish are starting to appear in other coastal towns,” reports Parana Online. “The dead fish are going to Antonina, and Guaraqueçaba. We need an urgent solution to this,” he warned.

The number of different cases of dead birds and fish around the U.S. and globally has been matched by the myriad of different explanations as to the cause of their demise. While some theories are rooted in scientific verbiage, others have taken on an altogether more spiritual and apocalyptic context.

The more mundane causes are cited as fireworks, localized hail, power lines, or other temporary phenomena that caused the birds to panic and fly into one another. However, this doesn’t explain why similar events are occurring in different areas of the country or indeed the world and it doesn’t address the issue of mass fish deaths.

As we have documented, the primary suspects should always be governments given the fact that they have routinely engaged in secret testing of biological and electromagnetic weapons that have detrimentally impacted both humans and animals many times in the past.

Others point to the New Madrid fault zone coming to life again as a result of being disturbed by the BP oil spill and threatening the onset of a series of mega-earthquakes which will hit Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. Why this would be preceded by mass bird deaths is not properly explained.

An example of one of the more esoteric theories behind the die-offs was explained by controversial Pastor James David Manning, who labeled the phenomena a “Global Katrina 2,” and an act of “biological warfare,” voicing his belief that the strange sequence of die-offs was a harbinger of tribulation and the biblical end times.

Web searches for bible prophecies and end time scenarios have exploded as some Christians fear that the mass die-offs mark the beginning of a series of catastrophes.

“Internet keyword searches continue to register off the charts. Queries like “dead fish Bible,” dead birds and fish Revelation,” dead birds and fish die End Times.” were being entered by the million Tuesday,” writes Jim Hagerty, with forum moderators kept busy answering questions about the opening of the Seventh Seal and whether or not a great pestilence will follow soon.

It seems unavoidable that the closer we get to 2012 and the onset of the widely prophesied end times theory, where a series of cataclysmic or transformative events will coincide with the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mayan Long Count calendar, which will subsequently herald the end of the world or the beginning of a new spiritual age, that every bizarre event will be cited as evidence of this coming transformation.

The mass deaths of birds in particular strike a resonant chord within the human psyche for a number of sociological and cultural reasons, not least of which is the fact that they are often seen as an early warning system for harm that could later come to human beings, which of course is where the term “canary in the coal mine” originates.

Although mass die-offs of birds and fish are by no means unprecedented, any increase in their regularity will combine easily with 2012 fever to whip up more frenzy and wide-eyed speculation. This in turn will distract millions of Americans from both real environmental crises that could be connected to the bird deaths, as well as very real political conspiracies and financial plots that continue to spell doomsday for the very existence of the American republic, with no reliance on idle speculation about Mayan calendars or 2012 end times prophecies.

Russia to become involved in another war

Azerbaijan is ready to unleash another war. This times it does not go about Nagorno Karabakh. The story is about Armenia. Azeri President Ilkham Aliyev made a bellicose statement on November 7 at the funeral ceremony held for the saboteur, who was killed in an armed clash on the border with Nagorno Karabakh. The Azeris, the president said, were ready to use military force to solve the Karabakh question any time. Speaking about Armenia, Aliyev said that it was an illegal state.

The president's remarks fit the circumstances in which they were announced. On November 7, Azerbaijan bid farewell to two military men. One of them died on June 18 when the Azeri army was trying to break through the line of contact with armed forced of Nagorno Karabakh. Ilkham Aliyev signed a decree to award the title of the Hero of Azerbaijan to the saboteur; a street in Baku will be named after the military man.

According to the president, Azerbaijan does not refuse from negotiations with Armenia, albeit only before the moment when it is possible to retrieve the country's integrity peacefully. "If we see that it is impossible, Azerbaijan will retrieve its territorial integrity militarily," Aliyev said.

"I don't doubt that we have all opportunities for it - combat training, material and technical means, ammunition and weapons, the professional army, high morale and the will of the Azerbaijani nation. We will be able to retrieve the territorial integrity of the country militarily," Aliyev said.

However, the statement that he said after the threat of using military power in Karabakh, has never been made before. Aliyev's remarks may mean that he denies the right of being an independent state not only to Karabakh, but to Armenia as well.

"Azerbaijan will retrieve its territorial integrity. Nagorno Karabakh is our land, our native land. The present Armenian state was founded on the land that historically belonged to Azerbaijan," Aliyev said. The president has probably forgotten that the ancient Armenian Kingdom was established hundreds and even thousands of years prior to the establishment of the Azerbaijani nation, not to mention the fact that Azerbaijan as an independent state was founded only in 1918.

Aliyev's remarks followed the talks with the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, which took place on October 27. The two presidents agreed to exchange the bodies of the military men, who were killed in a battle on the contact line between the conflicting parties. In addition, Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to continue the dialogue to regulate the long-standing conflict.

Was Aliyev intended to gain political profit from his bellicose remarks? It could be possible, taking into consideration the fact that parliamentary elections took place in the country on November 7.

Armed clashes in the area of the Karabakh conflict occur on a regular basis during the recent six months, and the conflict seems to escalate. In addition, Azerbaijan has been involved in arms deal lately, purchasing arms from foreign countries.

For the time being, officials of either Armenia or Nagorno Karabakh have not showed any reactions to Aliyev's remarks. Armenia has its own vision about the history of the region. There are officials in the Armenian administration who believe that Azerbaijan is the territory of Armenia, which was taken away from the country by Arab, Persian and Turkish conquerors. Such an interpretation is obviously an exaggeration. Aliyev went too far as well. The Armenian state was founded over 2,000 years ago and took the vast territory from the Caspian to the Mediterranean Sea during the peak of its power. Armenia was the first state in the world to have recognized Christianity. Therefore, it is incorrect (to say the least) to consider the Armenian land as the land of Azerbaijan.

The recent statement from the Azeri president is another fact to prove how complicated the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia is. Too much blood has been shed during many centuries of the conflict between the two nations. The massacre of Armenians in Sumgait in 1988, the expulsion of Armenians from Baku, the subsequent expulsion of Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the war in Karabakh during the 1990s that ended with the defeat of Azerbaijan's army - all that is still fresh in memory.

It goes without saying that the Azeri army is technologically more powerful than it was in 1994. The Armenian army was not born yesterday either. Baku needs to bear in mind the fact that neither Brussels nor Washington will support Azerbaijan, as it happened with Georgia in 2008. The Armenian lobby in the West will be stronger than the influence of Azeri energy carriers.

The Nagorno Karabakh conflict is like the conflict in the Middle East, which seems to last forever. Bellicose statements shatter all hopes for peaceful regulation of the conflict. Armenia may take efforts to prove that Azerbaijan is a militarist state that nurtures another genocide against the country.

Armenia is one of the few countries where Russia has its army bases. Like it happened with South Ossetia, Russia will not be able to sit on its hands in case of a military attack against its ally.

Australia bans flu vaccines in children after vomiting, fevers, seizure

As usual, Australian health authorities have been urging parents there to vaccinate their children against the flu, propagating the mythology that flu vaccines are both safe and effective. But this time around, many Australian parents found out the hard way that they were being lied to.
It didn’t take long to realize the truth after their children start going into convulsions following the flu vaccine injections. Other children began vomiting or exhibiting dangerously high levels of fever. One child has gone into a coma and may never recover.

When Mrs Flint got to his cot the baby had vomited and was lying on his side having a seizure. ‘He couldn’t cry – his head was hanging down in the car seat and he couldn’t move. I was petrified – it was one of the worst experiences of my life.”
The story goes on to say, “The doctor who treated Avery told Mrs Flint her baby was the fifth child with similar symptoms admitted to the hospital that day.”
In other words, this was no rare event. Vaccinated children suffering severe convulsions were piling up in hospital emergency rooms across the country.
The real kicker, though, is that children started having convulsions two weeks ago but Australian health authorities ignored them, insisting that the vaccine was safe and causing it to be injected in yet more babies. Two weeks later, with dozens more children experiencing convulsions (and who knows how many thousands actually being harmed in less obvious ways), Commonwealth chief health officer Professor Jim Bishop finally announced the vaccination ban.
Remember: Health authorities in Australia, UK, the United States and everywhere else have relentlessly insisted that flu vaccines are perfectly safe and can’t possibly harm anyone. In the U.S., the FDA has given its approval to the very same flu vaccine that’s harming children in Australia, and the CDC has insisted that all children in the USA — regardless of age — should now be injected with this very same flu vaccine.

Chemically induced convulsions

As you’re reading this, you may find yourself wonder, “Well, what could cause such convulsions in children?”
The answer is more terrifying than you might think, because it’s not “weakened flu viruses” that vaccine manufacturer claim they put into the vaccines. A weakened flu virus doesn’t send children into convulsions. Only a chemical can do that.
The chemical in question is one that’s routinely added to most vaccines as a way to aggravate the immune system to respond to the presence of the weakened virus. It’s called an “adjuvant” and consists of a highly inflammatory chemical that we now know may damage brain tissues and the nervous system. It is this adjuvant that most likely caused the convulsions in children.
Even in children who don’t experience convulsions, there is speculation that this adjuvant may lead to future Alzheimer’s disease or other neurological disorders. Vaccine manufacturers always attempt to downplay their use of adjuvant chemicals, and few media outlets focus on this important point, but it is the adjuvant that is most likely responsible for sending these Australian children into hospitals with convulsions.

Health authorities defend dangerous vaccine

One thing I’ve noticed about vaccine pushers is that they behave like irrational zealots. No matter how much evidence surfaces about the dangers of vaccines, they continue to mindlessly push them while ignoring the evidence.
A pediatric professor in Australia, Dr Peter Richmond, admitted that researchers were trying to figure out if the entire vaccine was dangerous, or if there was just a bad batch. But even before getting the answer to this question, he goes on to say that everybody over the age of five should go ahead and get injected with this same vaccine! In other words, he’s so convinced the vaccine is safe — even after dozens of children were obviously harmed by it — that he’s still pushing the same dangerous vaccine onto everybody else!
This is precisely the kind of attitude reflected across the vaccine industry. Reports of children being harmed, or paralyzed, or hospitalized by vaccines are always written off as “coincidence.” The mounting evidence is simply thrown out the window because it conflicts with the pro-vaccine agenda.
Can you imagine the outrage if an herbal product sent fifty kids to the hospital suffering from convulsions? Health authorities across the world would be quick to condemn the product, and they’d confiscate it right off the shelves while shutting down the operations of its manufacturer. But somehow when a vaccine does the same thing, these same health authorities urge people to keep on injecting their children with it!
It makes no sense. But then again, the vaccine industry was never based on rational thinking in the first place. If health authorities were truly rational, they’d be handing out vitamin D supplements to children instead of injecting them with vaccines, because vitamin D has been scientifically proven to provide better protection against the flu than vaccines. Of course, to ask health authorities to make rational decisions is sort of like asking politicians to start telling the truth. In the complicated world of profits and politics, rational, honest thinking just doesn’t get any traction. It’s far more profitable to keep lying to the world and raking in billions of dollars each year off dangerous vaccines, even as they continue to harm innocent children.
I often wonder… How many dead children will it take before parents wake up and realize that flu vaccines are dangerous? The answer may surprise you: Even a million dead children won’t change the minds of most parents because they just do whatever they’re told by health authorities, even if it makes no rational sense.
Most parents are so brainwashed by the medical system that they would gladly line up to have their babies injected with chemotherapy if they were told it was somehow necessary.
At some point, the parents whose babies are being harmed or potentially even killed by these vaccines can only blame themselves. They were the ones who brought their babies to be injected with a chemical adjuvant and viral fragments, and they should know better than to trust the government when it comes to health advice. The government, after all, still says that pharmaceutical chemicals are good for you while vitamins, herbs and natural remedies are dangerous. And it’s the government that approved the very vaccines that are right now sending these children to the hospital.
Any parent that trusts the government with the health of their child is setting themselves up for catastrophe. And that catastrophe could very well cost them the life of their child.

Cases of narcolepsy in children jumped 300 per cent following H1N1 vaccination campaign

Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) has suspended the use of the H1N1 vaccine over fears that the shot is linked with a 300 per cent increase in cases of the neurological disorder narcolepsy among children and young people over the last six months.
The news is sure to discourage more parents from vaccinating their children in the coming months, with the swine flu shot now being combined with the regular seasonal flu jab. A recent Rasmussen poll found that 52 per cent of Americans were concerned about the safety of vaccines as we approach the start of school and college terms, where many children and teenagers will be “required” to take shots before they can attend.
Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder that can be triggered by a virus. “A patient suffering from narcolepsy may suddenly fall asleep, for example, while, speaking or eating without prior warning. Their muscles may also suddenly weaken, causing them to suddenly collapse. There is no known cure for the disease,” reports Finnish news website YLE.
“The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) decided on Tuesday to recommend that vaccinations against swine flu with the Pandemix vaccine should be suspended until it is established whether or not the vaccine is the cause of the surge in cases of narcolepsy among children and young people,” reports Finland’s largest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
Narcolepsy is a very rare disorder, but 15 new cases of the disease have emerged in young people and children since December in Finland. “There is a clear time correlation between the cases and the swine flu vaccinations,” reports Helsingin Sanomat. An unusually large number of cases of narcolepsy have also emerged in Sweden in the aftermath of the H1N1 vaccination program.
Pekka Puska, director-general of THL, said that the suspension would remain in place until the potential link between the vaccine and cases of narcolepsy could be properly investigated.
According to Kari Lankinen, head physician of the Finnish Medicines Agency, doctors were complicit in hiding the link between the swine flu shot and narcolepsy and did so to advance their careers.
“Lankinen suspects that the reason for the silence was the doctors’ concern about their own professional goals – such as getting their articles published in international medical journals. The doctors who made the observations in recent months now work with the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL),” reports YLE.fi.
In total, around 750 Finns have experienced harmful side effects as a result of taking the H1N1 shot, according to the Helsinki Times.

The news of yet more side-effects in the aftermath of the swine flu vaccination campaign should send another warning signal to parents across the world who are planning on having their child inoculated with seasonal flu vaccines this fall.
Both the FDA and the World Health Organization have recommendedthat the H1N1 shot be included with the upcoming seasonal flu vaccine, and health departments across America as well as Europe will be combining the jabs.
As we reported earlier this year, Chair of the Council of Europe’s Sub-committee on Health Wolfgang Wodarg’s investigation into the 2009 swine flu outbreak found that the pandemic was a fake hoax manufactured by pharmaceutical companies in league with the WHO to make vast profits while endangering public health.
Wodarg said that governments were “threatened” by special interest groups within the pharmaceutical industry as well as the WHO to buy the vaccines and inject their populations without any reasonable scientific reason for doing so, and yet in countries like Germany and France only around 6 per cent took the vaccine despite enough being available to cover 90 per cent of the population.
Wodarg said there was “no other explanation” for what happened than the fact that the WHO worked in cahoots with the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture the panic in order to generate vast profits, agreeing with host Alex Jones that the entire farce was a hoax.
He also explained how health authorities were “already waiting for something to happen” before the pandemic started and then exploited the virus for their own purposes.
Professor Ulrich Keil, director of the World Health Organization’s Collaborating Centre for Epidemiology, also slammed the swine flu epidemic as an overblown “angst campaign”, devised in conjunction with major drug companies to boost profits for vaccine manufacturers.
As Natural News’ Mike Adams reported, several members of the Emergency Committee expert panel that advised the World Health Organization (WHO) during the swine flu scare were receiving financial support from pharmaceutical manufacturers either during or prior to the epidemic.
Both H1N1 and seasonal flu shots have been linked with a number of different side-effects across the globe, including Guillain-Barré Syndrome as well as dystonia, a paralyzing neurological disorder.

Two small outbreaks of influenza A/H3N2 in Iowa and cases of H3N2 in 11 other states have caused the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to urge healthcare providers to be vigilant.

The CDC released a health advisory on August 4 that reported an increase in the incidents of H3N2 in late June and July, according to CIDRAP News. While noting that localized influenza outbreaks occur every summer, the CDC said clinicians should consider the flu as a possible diagnosis when patients demonstrate acute respiratory illness, including pneumonia.

The outbreaks in Iowa occurred in two non-contiguous counties. In the first incidence, four out of 13 members of a college sports team became ill. In the second, nine of 12 children and one parent became ill at a daycare center.

None of the patients had recently travelled and there were no known epidemiological links between the two outbreaks, according to the CDC. The Iowa Department of Public Health, however, issued a July 30 epidemiological update stating that the two outbreaks have connections to travel outside Iowa.

The CDC report said that, on the basis of hemagglutinin gene sequencing of four isolates so far, the viruses are expected to be similar to the A/Perth/16/2009-like H3N2 viruses, which are included in the 2010 seasonal vaccine. Since the strain has yet to circulate widely in the United States, last year’s vaccine would offer scant protection.

Haiti, a small Caribbean nation, has been in the center of attention of the world media for two weeks already. The massive earthquake killed tens, if not thousands of people there. However, the consequences of the disaster could have been a lot less terrible if Haiti had been a politically stable nation.

The day of January 13, 2010 will be remembered in the history of Haiti and the whole world forever. The number of victims still remains unknown, which may mean that the Haitian quake will become the bloodies in the history of human civilization. The previous natural disaster of similar destructive power occurred in December of 2004, when tsunami killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Haiti , a former French colony, with the ten-million-strong population, is the poorest nation of the Western hemisphere. The per capita GDP in 2008 made up only $1,317 a year. Haiti’s child mortality is one of the highest in the world. Every tenth Haitian has AIDS.

About 50 percent of the country’s population can neither read nor write. Hundreds of thousands of people live in miserable huts and cardboard houses. Hunger is a part of everyday life in Haiti. The biggest dream of nearly every citizen of Haiti is to leave the country and go somewhere else. Millions of them have already moved to the USA and France.

It may seem surprising that such terrible things take place in the region which many other people consider tropical paradise. Its neighbors – the Dominican Republic and Jamaica – attract thousands of tourists and make millions on them. Haiti is not an attraction for tourists, though. There are no hotels, no roads and no comfortable beaches there. The level of criminality is probably the highest in the Western hemisphere.

Haiti as an independent nation appeared on the map of the world in 1804. More than two centuries of independence have not helped the country become at least a developing nation. The matter is not about the racial structure of the population. The Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago live a lot better.

US troops occupied Haiti in 1915-1934. It did not help the impoverished nation much. However, the USA then helped the local president Francois Duvalier not to let Haiti follow the example of the socialist revolution in Cuba.

Duvalier was one of the most infamous dictators in the history of the Western Hemisphere. The cult of voodoo in Haiti was given an official status during his rule. Duvalier exterminated up to 30,000 of his opponents.

He received 100 percent of votes during the presidential election in 1964. He died in 1971. His son, Jean-Claude Duvalier, stayed in power for 15 years until he was toppled. A series of coups took place in the country afterwards, which made the US Army and the United Nations Organization interfere.

The humanitarian disaster in Haiti unveiled many problems, which the nation has been living with for decades. Most of them are connected with the fact that the country does not know what normal power is. None of its rulers have done a thing to give Haitians an opportunity to overcome poverty. Haiti has shown the world the terrible example of what political instability may lead to.

Poor Haiti. And why is Haiti so poor? Because right from the beginning, since its conception as a free and independent nation, foreign powers did all they could to place a stone around the neck of the fledgling state. Its inhabitants, born into slavery, were never given a chance, despite the fact that Haiti is the true America.

For “people” like Pat Robertson, former Presidential candidate for the Republican Party, Founder and Chairperson of the Christian Broadcasting Network, the earthquake was visited upon Haiti because, in his words, “they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said we will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French. True story”.

There are no words to reply to such pig-headed, unadulterated ignorance because there is no vocabulary to describe the ideas of such a simplistic, moronic, shallow and indeed, evil reaction to the plight of three million people, who as Pat Robertson spewed forth his demonic venom, were having hands and legs amputated without anaesthetic.

Haiti is in the state it is in not because it made a pact with the devil, but because forces of evil here on Earth in Europe and North America decided the country would be a non-starter right from the word “go”. Indeed, before this. Haiti and the Dominican Republic are no less than Hispaniola, the isle on which Christopher Columbus landed. This is America.

The Taino people who lived there were systematically massacred by the Spanish, who quickly filled the sugar and coffee plantations with slaves from Africa during the 1500s and 1600s. Haiti’s fate as a territory was signed in the United Provinces, in Europe, at the Treaty of Ryswick (September 20^th 1697) which ended the Nine Years’ War between France on one side and Britain, Spain, the United Provinces and the Holy Roman Empire on the other: Hispaniola was divided between Spain, which took the eastern two thirds (Dominican Republic today) and France was given the western third, Haiti.

Haiti soon became France’s richest colony. It is difficult to state whether the French were less demonic than the Spanish. Louis XIV’s Code Noir, setting out conditions for slaves in the French Territories, had been passed in a decree in 1685 and immediately after the French rule began, the Haitians were subjected to its terms, among which were the permission for a master to execute a slave (Art. 33), to cut the ears off and brand with a hot iron, or cut the hamstring and brand again (Art. 38), to be chained and beaten (Art. 42).

While the Code also laid out conditions for the proper treatment of slaves and forbade torture, many colonial masters performed the most horrific acts of savagery, including boiling slaves in cauldrons, setting dogs onto them, drowning them, burying them alive or an old favourite, crucifixion.

One hundred years later, while France was in the throes of the Revolution, a Jamaican (literate) slave called Boukman Dutty led the Haitian Revolution against the hated slavemasters and proclaimed Independence in August 1791. This was the continent’s first Freedom Revolution and on January 1st 1804, the Republic of Haiti was officially constituted.

Due to continued French attempts to annex the new Republic militarily, the Haitian President (Jean-Pierre Boyer) was persuaded to buy the right to Independence through a loan from French banks, which basically sealed the fate of the new country through the whole of the nineteenth century. The loan of 90 million gold francs was equivalent to 21 billion USD today and even at the end of the century, over 80% of Haiti’s GDP was consumed by the capital and interest repayments to the French banks.

Did the USA help Haiti against oppression? Far from it. The United States not only refused to recognise the new Republic, but imposed an economic embargo until 1862. In 1888, the USA intervened military against the Government, in 1892 it was the Germans who supported an insurrection and from 1915 until 1934, the country was occupied by the USA, an action which gave the National City bank of New York the assets of the Banque Nationale d’Haiti.

US Control over Haiti’s finances continued until 1947 and laws were passed which opened the market to American imports. Ten years later, the USA placed the psychopathic dictator François Duvalier (Papa Doc) in power and he promptly installed a reign of terror promoted by the tontons macoutes (evil beasts), his presidential guard, which exterminated and tortured whoever was deemed to be an opponent of the one who now started calling himself “God”. Upon his death in 1971, he was succeeded by his son, Jean-Claude Duvalier (Baby Doc) who until fleeing to France in 1985, managed to finish what his father had started, namely the total destruction of the country’s society, leading it to the status of the poorest nation in the western hemisphere, with the highest illiteracy rate.

After a series of military coups, in December 1990, the socially progressive “Friend of the People”, Jean Bertrand Aristide was elected with 67% of the vote. He lasted a year, for the US ousted him in another coup in 1991. Three years of unrest culminated in the Clinton Administration reinstalling Aristide in 1994, but imposing a neoliberal reform programme which tore the country’s agricultural society apart and saw the country’s slum population soar. This was continued during the Presidency of René Duval (1996 to 2001), when Aristide was elected again, but removed by the USA in 2004, was kidnapped and shipped off to one of the remotest countries on earth, the Central African Republic.

Duval’s re-election in 2006 put an end to two years of total chaos but did nothing to end the economic Armageddon the country was in, where people died by the thousands in the most horrific slums the world has ever seen.

And now Pat Robertson has the audacity to say that these people have been punished by God for making a pact with the Devil? They never had a chance.

Other figures were forwarded by Aramick Louis, the secretary of state for public safety, who said 40,000 bodies have been buried and another 100,000 people probably died in the earthquake.

What is really going on when there are 1,364,939 cases, 76K hospitalized, 299 dead, and British Scientists are saying they do not yet have enough samples to determine the nature or strain of the Ukraine virus?

Despite WHO assurances that the epidemic in the Ukraine was indeed badly-managed H1N1 swine flu, a team of British scientists is now testing samples to see if this may be the beginning of a dreaded mutation in the H1N1 virus. A more virulent mutation would be a repeat of history, as the 1918 H1N1 influenza demonstrated a disturbingly similar pattern of mild introduction. “Unlike similar epidemics in other countries, three causes of serious viral infections came together simultaneously in Ukraine: two seasonal flus and the Californian flu,” Ukraine President Yushchenko said in a television interview. “Virologists conclude that this combination of infections may produce an even more aggressive new virus as a result of mutation.” The British scientists confirmed that they do not yet have enough samples to determine the nature or strain of the Ukraine virus. “We do not have a time scale for the results of the tests, although some preliminary results have been obtained. It is expected that within the next day or so WHO will release the gene sequence from tissue samples. Meanwhile speculation is rampant about what the ‘mystery disease’ actually is. Mixed types of parainfluenza and influenza A/N1N1 lead to this state. Bachinsky noted that the virus is extremely toxic, it is able to penetrate not only through respiratory apparatus but also through the eyes. Chernovtsy scientists recommend in any case use masks and even wear protective spectacles. An important condition to prevent deterioration of the situation is also the observance of quarantine regime.

Was the Ukraine warned in advance?

In August 2009, a man called Joseph Mosse, who claims to be a former microbiologist with the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, was arrested in Los Angeles, after having made threats against the White House. Shortly after his arrest there were reports that he had called into a radio show with a warning about a biological weapon being prepared in the Ukraine by a company called Baxter International. As WHO blames antiquated preparedness for the Ukraine, the country seems more adept at tracking exact numbers and releasing their findings than anyone else. Is The WHO, The UN and perhaps Baxter Pharmaceutical in collusion to buy some time before assuring people that this is not a repeat of the 1918 Pandemic? CBC is reporting that a government lab in Winnipeg handling samples of swine is struggling to keep track of viruses and bacteria, a recent audit found. All together now, say “Fort Detrick,” where vials containing possibly the 1918 virus strain are missing.

Global swine flu deaths slow as WHO toll passes 6,250

GENEVA — More than 6,250 people have died in the swine flu pandemic, World Health Organisation data showed Friday, as the global death rate appeared to slow.

The number of deaths from the A(H1N1) pandemic in the week to November 8 grew by about 179, against 224 a week earlier and a leap of about 700 in the last week of October.

The pandemic now stretches across 206 countries or territories worldwide, the WHO added in a statement.

The UN health agency said the influenza season showed signs of peaking in North America, but was intensifying across much of Europe and Central and Eastern Asia.

"Very intense and increasing influenza activity continues to be reported in Mongolia with a severe impact on the health care system," it added.

But the WHO found after investigating the sudden reported surge in flu cases in Ukraine in recent weeks that the swine flu virus had shown no signs of becoming stronger.

"The initial analysis of information indicates that the numbers of severe cases do not appear to be excessive when compared to the experience of other countries and do not represent any change in the transmission or virulence of the virus," the statement said.

More than 1.3 million Ukrainians have been taken ill with swine flu and 265 people have lost their lives to the virus since the end of October, the country's health ministry said Friday.

The Americas still account for the largest number of deaths. The WHO estimates 4,512 have died since the pandemic virus was first identified in April in Mexico and the United States, an increase of 113 in a week.

However, new data released late on Thursday, separate from the WHO figures, estimates that swine flu has killed as many as 3,900 people in the United States.

Health officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) used a new counting method that yielded an estimate six times higher than the last.

The CDC's previous estimated death toll from H1N1 was 672.

While still imprecise, the new numbers provide "a bigger picture of what has been going on in the first six months of the pandemic," Anne Schuchat, director of the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters.

She said previous estimates were based on "laboratory confirmed cases of hospitalisation and death, potentially giving an incomplete picture of the story of this pandemic."

The WHO said the number of deaths reported in Europe stayed stable at some 300, with signs the pandemic caseload was peaking in parts of Britain, notably Northern Ireland, as well as in Ireland and Iceland.

Meanwhile, the virus spread to the breakaway Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Friday as authorities there confirmed its first swine flu death.

Neighbouring Turkey, the only country to recognise the TRNC, also announced a further 20 deaths, bringing its total to 60 fatal cases.

Elsewhere in Europe, Hungarian officials said a 55-year-old and a 73-year-old woman had died in hospital from swine. Seven people have died from the virus in Hungary since July.

In Austria, the Kleine Zeitung newspaper said a 26-year-old man became the country's third fatal case after being hospitalised five days ago with an infection.

In Germany, Cologne footballer Christopher Schorch became the first player in the country's top division to contract the virus.

The 20-year-old German is being treated at home and should return to training next Wednesday, according to his club.

Sharp increases in cases were reported in several western and southern Asian nations, including Israel and Afghanistan in recent weeks, while growing numbers were reported in China and Japan.

Pandemic flu was largely on the wane in most of south and southeast Asia and in the warming southern hemisphere.

At least 6,071 people worldwide have been killed by the A/H1N1 influenza as infections continue to increase quickly in the northern hemisphere, the World Health Organization (WHO) said in a latest update, Xinhua reported.

Of all the deaths, 4,399 occurred in the Americas, 661 occurred in South-East Asia and 498 occurred in the West Pacific. The other three WHO regions, Europe, East Mediterranean and Africa reported 300,137 and 76 deaths respectively.

The WHO, which declared the A/H1N1 flu as a pandemic in June, said the total number of lab confirmed cases worldwide is now over482,300, but this case count is significantly lower than the actual number of cases that have occurred because many countries have stopped testing and reporting individual cases.

Intense and persistent influenza transmission continues to be reported in North America without evidence of a peak in activity, the UN agency said.

In Europe and Central and Western Asia, pandemic influenza activity continues to increase across many countries, signaling an unusually early start to the winter influenza season. Intense and increasing influenza activity also continues to be reported in East Asia.

Since the new pandemic H1N1 virus emerged in April, infections in different species of susceptible animals (pig, turkey, ferret, and cat) have been reported, the WHO said.

However, limited evidence suggests that these infections occurred following direct transmission of the virus from infected humans, and these isolated events have had no impact on the dynamics of the pandemic, which is spreading readily via human-to-human transmission.

Unless the epidemiology of the pandemic changes, these will continue to pose no special risks to human health, said the WHO.

According to a report out of Germany, German soldiers have been given an additive-free swine flu shot that doesn’t contain mercury, squalene, or any of the other dangerous adjuvants associated with the vaccine, raising questions as to why this version of the shot has not been made available to the general population.

An article that when translated is entitled, German soldiers gets non poisonous vaccine, explains how 250,000 German troops have been given a “friendly” vaccine made by Baxter that does not contain “controversial mercury-containing additives or preservatives”.

It appears that there are two versions of the swine flu shot, one for those in the know and another for the general population who trust the government to shoot them up with dangerous toxins that have been linked to autism and other neurological disorders.

Despite concerns about thimerosal and mercury, thimerosal is an ingredient of the swine flu vaccine which is currently being rolled out globally.

“Some of the vaccine will be stored in multi-dose vials containing thimerosal, an antibacterial additive that contains mercury,” reported the Washington Post in an article about which groups will receive the swine flu vaccine first.

Indeed, the swine flu vaccine contains no less than 25,000 per cent the amount of mercury considered safe.

Mercury is classified by The Department of Defense as a hazardous material that could cause death if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin, and the EPA is now limiting mercury emissions from factories because the toxin “can damage the brain and nervous system and is especially dangerous to fetuses and small children,” but according to the CDC it’s perfectly safe to inject into your child’s bloodstream.

In reality, the nasal spray contains live H1N1 virus, which has led many doctors and health professionals to express concerns that it could spread the swine flu virus amongst those with weakened immune systems.

“It has been documented that the live viruses from the vaccine can be shed (and potentially spread into the community) from recipient children for up to 21 days, and even longer from adults. Viral shedding also puts breastfeeding infants at risk if the mother has been given FluMist,” writes Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, one of the most outspoken physicians in the country on the hazards of vaccines and vaccination.

FluMist’s own package insert reads as follows, “FluMist® recipients should avoid close contact with immunocompromised individuals for at least 21 days.”

“The warning is specifically directed toward those living in the same household with an immunocompromised person, but the on-going release of live viruses throughout the community may be a significant risk to everyone who has a weak, or weakened, immune system,” writes Tenpenny, pointing out that if one takes into account a plethora of health conditions that could be classified as contributing to immunodeficiency, as much as 60% of the entire population could be considered to be “chemically immunosuppressed.”

One of the pharmaceutical companies developing nasal spray vaccines is Baxter International, who were caught earlier this year releasing batches of vaccines from a lab in Austria that were contaminated live bird flu virus, otherwise known as H5N1.

Russia denies first swine flu death

MOSCOW — Russia's health authorities Monday vehemently denied that the country had recorded its first fatality from the A(H1N1) virus, contradicting a top doctor's claim that a woman had recently died of swine flu.

"Not a single case that had a fatal conclusion -- in other words, death -- has been recorded on the territory of the Russian Federation," said Deputy Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova, quoted by news agencies.

She said that the woman, a 46-year-old Russian doctor who recently returned from Bulgaria, had died of pneumonia aggravated by a heart condition and not swine flu.

Earlier Dmitry Lvov, head of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Virology, said that not only had Russia recorded its first swine flu death but that the number of cases could be in the tens of thousands.

"We immediately diagnosed (the woman with) swine flu," Lvov was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

"We could not take any measures because she died the very next day."

Lvov also warned that the total count of people infected with the virus could be much higher than the 381 cases that Russian health authorities had acknowledged so far.

"By my count, it can be as high as the tens of thousands. I cannot prove it yet, but in a few weeks I will be able to and will say so," Lvov said.

"The time when we could say that our border was secure is past. For the flu virus it is a sieve," he added.

The Russian authorities have been pointing out that the country remains relatively unaffected by the virus and have urged citizens to take strict precautions when travelling abroad.

The World Health Organisation announced on Friday that the global flu death toll has reached 3,486, up 281 from a week ago.

Experts have previously predicted that about one third of the world's population of more than 6.5 billion people could be affected by the A(H1N1) virus, but they stress that so far most victims are suffering only mild symptoms.

GENEVA -- The World Health Organization says at least 625 people have been reported dead from swine flu in the last week.

The swine flu virus has caused at least 2,837 deaths since it emerged in Mexico and the United States earlier this year and developed into a full-blown global epidemic. Most of the deaths are in the Western Hemisphere.

Friday that laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease have now reached 254,206.

Spokesman Gregory Hartl says the figure far understates the actual number of cases because countries are no longer required to report each infection as the caseload is so high.

He says the number of deaths is growing proportionately to the increase in number of infected people.

The World Health Organization predicts the H1N1 Swine Flu virus will infect two billion people, or one out of every three persons, over the next two years. While this flu has already killed 800, the WHO says thousands more could die unless an effective vaccine is developed soon.

This year's pandemic spread around the globe with record-breaking speed. It has taken less than two months for the H1N1 swine flu to spread, while previous pandemics took six months or longer.

Yet Dr. Keiji Fukuda of the World Health Organization warns this global outbreak is still in the early stages. "We have a very large global population, and it is quite clear that we'll continue to see spread of this virus through countries, and then among countries," he said.

Most of the patients have been teenagers, between 12 and 17 years old. But the virus is spreading more deeply into many communities and the WHO says the average age of patients now appears to be getting slightly older.

While young people and pregnant women are still at higher risk for contracting the H1N1 virus, health officials also caution that patients with cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness, diabetes, cancer, and obesity are just as vulnerable.

Some clinical trials of potential vaccines are underway, others will start soon.

The European Medicines Agency says large scale clinical trials will be bypassed in order to get vaccines into the general population as soon as possible.

Health officials in Britain, Greece, France and Sweden have announced they will begin inoculations among the public possibly within weeks.

The WHO's Dr. Fukuda has not criticized that decision, but expressed concern about rushing vaccine production too soon. "There are certain things which cannot be compromised," he explains. "And one of the things which cannot be compromised is the safety of vaccines. There can't be any questions whether the vaccine is safe or not."

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization says countries with widespread infections have switched from reporting individual testing of all patients, to monitoring and reporting trends in the population.

According to the WHO, testing of patients has strained the laboratory capacity of many countries.

Dr. Fukuda believes health officials can still accurately predict the pandemic's size. "We know that the total number of laboratory confirmed cases is really only a subset of the total number of cases," he asserts.

Recently, the international health organization said it would no longer publish global tables reporting the number of new cases for all countries.

Swine flu rapidly spreads through Africa

As the AH1N1 virus continues its spread across the African continent, Tanzania has reported its first case of swine flu.

After Zimbabwe reported its first two swine flu cases on Thursday, Tanzania also confirmed its first swine flu case after a British student tested positive for the virus in the capital, Dar es Salaam.

According to Andrew Swai, director of clinical services at the country's main referral hospital in the capital, the 17-year-old student arrived in the country from Britain via Kenya on July 2 as part of a group of volunteer students.

"The victim has undergone a first diagnostic test and it was positive" for H1N1, he told AFP, adding, "No need for panic this is just a single case and we know how it came about."

Tanzania's chief medical officer Deo Mutasiwa said the country was ready to manage an epidemic and had enough Tamiflu to deal with the crisis.

Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the Ivory Coast are the African to have confirmed swine flu cases so far.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on June 11, 2009 lifted its pandemic alert level from phase 5 to 6, signaling the rapid spread of the virus around the globe.

A disease is classed as a pandemic when human-to-human transmission becomes widespread in two world regions.

The WHO today reported that nearly 90,000 cases of H1N1 infection have been confirmed around the world. Of those, 382 have led to death.

“As we see today, with well over 100 countries reporting cases, once a fully fit pandemic virus emerges, its further international spread is unstoppable,” Chan said.

She said the virus already has peaked in some areas.

“But we need to watch very carefully what happens during the current winter season in the Southern Hemisphere,” she added.

Argentina, Chile, and Australia have been particularly hard hit in recent weeks. Argentina reports 26 deaths from the virus. Chile reported 1,165 new cases since Wednesday, including two deaths. There have been 7,376 confirmed H1N1 cases in Chile and 14 deaths. Australia also reported two more deaths in the last two days, bringing its total to nine.

The United States has confirmed 33,902 cases of H1N1, including 170 deaths. Wisconsin continues to lead the country in confirmed cases with 5,861, but there have been only four deaths attributed to swine flu in the state. There have been 44 deaths reported in the state of New York and 21 in California.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 13 deaths from swine flu in the state. There have been 3,149 laboratory-confirmed cases of H1N1 infection in Illinois. About 75 percent of those cases have occurred in Chicago and Cook County, but the IDPH says the virus has spread to 32 of the state’s 102 counties.

IDPH Director Dr. Damon T. Arnold Thursday reminded state residents that they should continue to take steps to guard against contracting swine flu.

“Although the rate at which we're seeing new H1N1 influenza virus cases in Illinois has slowed, the department continues to report new cases and expects this to continue through the summer,” Arnold said. “That is why it is important for people continue to take preventative measures and practice good hygiene. Doing so will help you avoid becoming sick and spreading illness.”

The department also released information on the ages of residents who have been infected. More than half (1,770) have occurred in people aged 5-24 years and there have been four deaths in that age group. There have been 700 cases and seven deaths in the 25-64 age group. Only 35 cases have been reported in people 65 and older, with one death. There have been 315 cases in children under 5, with one death. The numbers fall short of the total cases in the state because the age of some patients is not known by the department.

NJ reports first swine flu death

- Swine flu is being blamed for the death of a 49-year-old northern New Jersey man, the first fatality in the state associated with the virus, health officials said Monday.

The man reported having flu-like symptoms on May 30 and was hospitalized on June 2 with pneumonia. He died Saturday at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair.

State health officials said Monday that the man had multiple underlying conditions, although they did not specify what they were. It was unknown how he contracted the virus.

"He may have just gotten it from the community," Health and Senior Services Commissioner Heather Howard said. "It really is in all regions of the state."

To date, New Jersey has reported 320 confirmed cases of the swine flu, also known as the H1N1 virus, and 194 probable cases in 19 of the state's 21 counties.

State epidemiologist Tina Tan said it appears that there are fewer reports of suspected cases.

"We are starting to seeing a leveling off of actual reports we are getting from our local health departments and from our hospitals," Tan said.

However, Tan warned that influenza was a very unpredictable virus.

"We're not sure what type of trajectory it will take in the next couple of weeks," she said.

Symptoms of swine flu are similar to seasonal flu: fever, lack of appetite, coughing and fatigue. Some people also report having a sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Most cases reported in New Jersey have been mild. And compared to New York City, where health officials estimate that 253,000 people had the swine flu in Queens and Brooklyn alone during May, New Jersey's number of cases is quite small.

At least 16 New Yorkers have been killed by the virus; 12 had underlying health conditions known to make them at risk from the illness, city health officials said. The other four were obese, a finding the health department said deserves further study.

Last week, the World Health Organization declared swine flu a pandemic, the first global flu epidemic in 41 years.

Nearly 18,000 cases of swine flu have been reported across the U.S., with 45 confirmed deaths.

U.S. Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Sunday said production of a vaccine for swine flu is being set up in case a vaccine program is recommended.

She said the government is working with governors, as well as health and schools officials, in case a major vaccination program is needed. She says that production of a vaccine could start as early as late summer and be ready by the fall.

Israel stages 'doomsday' drill

Israel began its largest-ever exercise on Sunday to test the response of emergency services to a "doomsday" mix of missile attacks, suicide bombings and natural disasters.
The five-day exercise will simulate simultaneous rocket strikes from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and missile attacks from arch-foes Syria and Iran.

"The mere fact that Israel is preparing with such an exercise improves our ability to better protect our citizens and ultimately lowers the threat," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the cabinet meeting.

During the drill, Israel will be staging a "doomsday scenario" of simultaneous strikes against the country, defence ministry spokesman Shlomo Dror told AFP last week.

This will include conventional, chemical and biological strikes, as well as a wave of Palestinian suicide bombings, against large population centres.

Exercise Turning Point 3 will also simulate the conduct of rescue and medical services during earthquakes and epidemics and will involve the participation of schools, government ministers and other state institutions.

The drill's main activity will come on Tuesday, when air-raid sirens sound across the country and citizens must scramble to shelters, in some areas within seconds and others within no more than three minutes.

There will also be simulated cabinet meetings in which ministers will weigh their response to such attacks and scenarios.

"Schools, kindergartens and educational institutions across Israel will participate in the exercise, practising emergency entry into protected spaces," the army said in a statement. "Rear military bases, governmental offices and public institutions will also practice."

It is the third consecutive year Israel is conducting such an exercise, although this year's drill is the largest-ever.

"It is an important exercise and it is good that it is happening at this time," Defence Minister Ehud Barak said.

The manoeuvres were first held in the aftermath of the July-August 2006 war with Lebanon's Hezbollah militia, which revealed major weaknesses in how the Jewish state's homefront dealt with the rocket attacks.

"The Second Lebanon War revealed that the homefront was not well prepared for war and citizens found it hard to adapt to the special situation," Dror said.

Deputy Defence Minister Matan Vilnai told army radio on Sunday that "our enemies think that the rear is our weak point, we have to reinforce this front and be ready to face any situation."

The drill comes just two weeks after the air force wrapped up a massive four-day exercise that tested its ability to defend against missile and jet strikes from Syria and Iran.

It was the first time the army has simulated strikes from the Islamic republic, located more than 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) away.

Israel considers Iran its biggest threat and is a leading campaigner against its nuclear programme, which it suspects is a cover for ambitions to build atomic weapons, charges vehemently denied by Tehran.

The Jewish state is itself regarded as having the strongest military in the Middle East and is believed to have a nuclear arsenel which it has never confirmed or denied.

The global H1N1 swine flu death toll rose by five Tuesday while Bahrain reported its first case.

Mexican health officials say their death toll rose by three to 83. U.S. officials report one more death, increasing the country's death toll to 12. Canadian health officials report a second swine flu-related death there.

Bahrain's Health Ministry announced its first confirmed swine flu case on Tuesday. Authorities in Bahrain say the patient is a 21-year-old student who recently returned from the northeastern U.S. state of New York.

The latest reports from those individual countries are not yet included the latest figures provided by the World Health Organization.

The WHO reports Tuesday there are nearly 13,000 confirmed swine flu cases in 46 countries, with 92 fatalities so far.

While the vast majority of deaths are reported in Mexico, the United States has so far reported the vast majority of infections, with more than 6,700 confirmed swine flu cases reported.

NEW YORK (AP) — A woman died over the weekend of swine flu, becoming the city's second victim and the nation's 11th.

The woman, who was in her 50s, had other health conditions, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene spokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti said. No other information on her case was disclosed Sunday.

Assistant public school principal Mitchell Wiener, who died May 17, was the city's first death from the virus. The 55-year-old had been sick for several days.

There were 280 confirmed cases of swine flu in the city and 94 hospitalizations as of Sunday, Scaperotti said. The number of confirmed cases probably doesn't fully reflect the spread of the virus, given that health officials aren't testing everyone for the H1N1 strain.

"It's most likely that if you're sick with the flu, that you have the H1N1 virus," Scaperotti said.

Those people with chronic health conditions such as diabetes and compromised immune systems who are suffering from flu-like symptoms should seek medical advice, Scaperotti said. Only those with more serious symptoms, such as shortness of breath, should go to emergency rooms, she said.

The health department recommended that physicians prescribe anti-flu drugs such as Tamiflu over the phone to patients with mild flu symptoms who have other health conditions.

Scaperotti said that as the virus spreads "we are going to see more increases of severe illness." She said that each year more than 1,000 people die of seasonal flu in the city.

The city's first outbreak of swine flu occurred about a month ago, when more than 1,000 teenagers at a Catholic high school in Queens began falling ill following the return of several students from vacations in Mexico, where the virus was first detected.

The virus has coursed through the city's schools and even reached its jail system, where inmates' visiting hours have been limited and hand sanitizer passed around. On Thursday, correction officials said they would sanitize a 2,600-inmate jail on Rikers Island.

The World Health Organization, as of Friday, had tallied more than 12,000 swine flu cases worldwide, with more than half of them in the United States. It counted at least 86 deaths, with 75 of those in Mexico.

Eighteen U.S. soldiers infected with swine flu have recovered after treatment on an American base in Kuwait and left the country, a Kuwaiti health official said Sunday.

"They were treated and they have fully recovered," said Youssef Mandakar, deputy head of Kuwait's public health department. He said the soldiers had shown "mild symptoms" of the disease upon their arrival at an Air Force base.

Kuwaiti authorities confirmed that the soldiers came from the United States but would not say where they had gone, adding that the troops had no contact with the local population and were treated at U.S. military facilities.

Ibrahim Abdul-Hadi, an undersecretary at the Health Ministry, said the U.S. military had examined and quarantined a number of soldiers who mixed with the infected ones.

Kuwait is a major ally of Washington and a logistics base for U.S. military personnel serving in Iraq.

Raad Mahmoud, a spokesman for the Iraqi Health Ministry, said precautions are being taken at airports and border entry points, but he said Iraqi authorities have no authority over U.S. troops and the foreigners who enter with them. He said the U.S. military has to administer medical tests to everybody when they enter the country and the military must present the reports to the ministry.

U.S. Army Maj. Jose Lopez, a military spokesman, said there were no reported cases of swine flu among American troops in Iraq.

Poland's Chief Sanitary Inspectorate on Sunday confirmed the country's third case of swine flu in a 21-year-old who had just returned to Poland from the United States.

Jan Bondar, the spokesman for the state office, said the man returned on Friday and presented himself at a hospital for testing after getting a call from a friend in Washington whom he had spent time with and who had contracted the virus.

The Pole's condition is not serious, Bondar said.

Vanga lost her sight when she was 12. She was swept away by a mighty tornado. Later she was found alive, covered with dirt and stones, with sand in her eyes. She became blind as a result.

- The World Health Organization said on Wednesday 33 countries have confirmed a total of 5,728 cases of swine flu, including 61 deaths.

Mexico reported 2,059 laboratory confirmed human cases with 56 deaths. The United States has 3,009 cases, including three fatalities. Canada reported 358 cases and one fatality. And Costa Rica said eight people have contracted the disease, and one of them died.

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Cuba, Denmark, Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland have confirmed one case each of the H1N1 influenza virus with no deaths.

Finland, Norway, Sweden and Thailand confirmed two cases. China, Guatemala, the Netherlands and South Korea have three cases each without fatalities. El Salvador and Japan have four reported cases.

Colombia has six cases, Israel and New Zealand have seven, Brazil eight, Italy nine, Germany 12, France 13, Panama 29, Britain 68 and Spain 98 cases, according to the WHO.

Is Swine Flu A Biological Weapon?

There are some factors that suggest the swine flu killing people in Mexico may be a biological weapon, but obviously no such conclusion can be drawn at this time. The World Health Organization and the U.S. government have been quick to deny such claims.

The swine flu virus is described as a completely new strain, an intercontinental mixture of human, avian and swine viruses. Tellingly, there have been no reported A-H1N1 infections of pigs.

According to a source known to former NSA official Wayne Madsen, “A top scientist for the United Nations, who has examined the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in Africa, as well as HIV/AIDS victims, concluded that H1N1 possesses certain transmission “vectors” that suggest that the new flu strain has been genetically-manufactured as a military biological warfare weapon.

Madsen claims that his source, and another in Indonesia, “Are convinced that the current outbreak of a new strain of swine flu in Mexico and some parts of the United States is the result of the introduction of a human-engineered pathogen that could result in a widespread global pandemic, with potentially catastrophic consequences for domestic and international travel and commerce.”

However, it’s important to stress that it is far too early to make this assumption. We have to bear in mind that the number of victims has been comparatively low when one considers the fact that hundreds of thousands in Mexico contract infectious diseases every year related to poverty like tuberculosis and malaria.

Fort Detrick, the U.S. Army Medical Command installation that was the source of the 2001 anthrax attacks, is again attracting suspicion in light of the swine flu panic after it was revealed that criminal investigators are probing whether virus samples recently went missing from its biolabs.

“Chad Jones, spokesman for Fort Meade, said CID is investigating the possibility of missing virus samples from the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases,” reports The Frederick News.

In February, USAMRIID halted their work when virus samples were discovered that were not listed in its inventory. Criminal investigators from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division unit at Fort Meade are now probing whether virus samples are missing from the Army’s top biolab, which also studies pathogens including ebola, anthrax and plague.

Obviously, in light of the current swine flu scare, and the new strain’s possible synthetic origin, the fact that virus samples may have gone missing from the same Army research lab from which the 2001 anthrax strain was released is extremely disturbing.

A 2008 FBI and DOJ investigation concluded that Bruce Edwards Irvins, a microbiologist, vaccinologist, and senior biodefense researcher at the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) in Fort Detrick, Maryland, was responsible for mailing anthrax to members of Congress and the media in September and October 2001.

The fact that Irvins apparently committed suicide shortly before the announcement led many to suspect that he was a patsy in a wider plot. Despite the suspicious circumstances, no autopsy was carried out on Irvins’ body. His attorney was certain that Irvins, who had cooperated with the 6-year investigation, was innocent of the five anthrax deaths.

The Department of Justice initially considered Dr. Steven Jay Hatfill to be a strong suspect in the anthrax attacks, but he later sued the government and won $5.8 million in damages. A New York Times piece on Irvins’ suicide asked the hypothetical question: “What if Dr. Hatfill had committed suicide in 2002, as friends feared he might? Would the investigators have released their evidence and announced that the perpetrator was dead?”

A company that delivered contaminated vaccines with live avian flu and human flu viruses earlier this year is now to lead the charge for designing vaccines for the Mexican Swine Flu outbreak.
According the Chicago Breaking News Center Baxter International, Inc. will take a leading role in creating a vaccine for the latest outbreak:
"Deerfield-based medical product giant Baxter International Inc. is working with the World Health Organization on a potential vaccine to curb the spread of the swine flu outbreak in Mexico, the company confirmed today. Baxter, which has a growing vaccine business, has worked with foreign countries in the past to develop vaccines for the H5N1 virus commonly known as bird flu. Baxter has a cell-based technology that allows the company to more rapidly produce vaccines in the event of a pandemic than a decades-old method that uses eggs to process vaccines and can take weeks or even months longer." This is a significant development due to the fact that the Baxter International, Inc., is still being investigated by the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Control as to why, and how, they mixed live avian flu (H5H1) viruses with a human flu (H3N2) viruses, which, had they been administered, could have set of a global pandemic earlier this year. According to authorities, this contamination could not have been a mistake due to industry and government enforced lab safety protocols designed to prevent such contamination. For instance, Baxter International adheres to something called BSL3 (Biosafety Level 3) lab safety protocols that put in place to prevent cross-contamination of materials. As explained on Wikipedia:
“Laboratory personnel have specific training in handling pathogenic and potentially lethal agents, and are supervised by competent scientists who are experienced in working with these agents. This is considered a neutral or warm zone. All procedures involving the manipulation of infectious materials are conducted within biological safety cabinets or other physical containment devices, or by personnel wearing appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment. The laboratory has special engineering and design features.”
If Baxter were following BSL3 procedures this contamination could only be explained through 1: either gross negligence or 2: willful contamination. So, why would a company that was caught recently distributing live avian and human flu vaccines, perhaps with the intent to stage a global flu pandemic, be allowed to develop a vaccine for the World Health Organization to combat the new swine flu outbreak? This defies logic and a good explanation... that is, unless logic and explanation is a bad one. For instance, we might want to contemplate that a man-made epidemic could be a useful tool to create the conditions for greater control over society by creating the appearance that a government is protecting citizens, while at the same time asking citizens to give up much of their freedoms and liberties. Also, there is the added benefit that one can make enormous profits if one has the cure. Should we immediately dismiss such unpalatable notions when in our recent history we have seen people in high places in government and industry using fear to profit from such scenarios? As Joseph Mercola writes:
"Not long ago, President Bush sought to instill panic in this country by telling us a minimum of 200,000 people will die from the avian flu pandemic, but it could be as bad as 2 million deaths in this country alone. This hoax is then used to justify the immediate purchase of 80 million doses of Tamiflu, a worthless drug that in no way shape or form treats the avian flu, but only decreases the amount of days one is sick and can actually contribute to the virus having more lethal mutations. So the U.S. placed an order for 20 million doses of this worthless drug at a price of $100 per dose. That comes to a staggering $2 billion. We are being told that Roche manufactures Tamiflu and, in a recent New York Times article, they were battling whether or not they would allow generic drug companies to help increase their production. But if you dig further you will find that a drug was actually developed by a company called Gilead that 10 years ago gave Roche the exclusive rights to market and sell Tamiflu... ...If you read the link below from Gilead, you'll discover Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was made the chairman of Gilead in 1997. Since Rumsfeld holds major portions of stock in Gilead, he will handsomely profit from the scare tactics of the government that is being used to justify the purchase of $2 billion of Tamiflu."
Rumsfeld and the Bush administration also tried to scare the population into buying and stockpiling Vistide, a vaccine to combat a disease that is virtually extinct, that is, except in labs -- smallpox. F. William Engdahl writes in the article "Tamiflu, Vistide and the Pentagon Agenda":
"The scare around smallpox and what to do was curiously similar then as it is today against Bird Flu pandemics. Defense Secretary Rumsfeld at that time ordered members of the Armed Forces to be inoculated against smallpox, an inoculation with horrendous side-effects. Rumsfeld’s smallpox package also included ordering Pentagon stockpiling of a drug named Vistide, supposedly to minimize side-effects of smallpox infection should it occur. The Bush Administration had made repeated attempts to convince the public and above all, the health and medical profession to go with mass inoculation against smallpox. In 2002 the CDC and certain high Administration officials were calling for pre-emptive smallpox inoculation of broad sectors of the population against threat of terrorists unleashing the pox. The Government began stockpiling hundreds of millions of smallpox vaccine doses."

Government officials have declared a public health emergency in connection with the swine flu outbreak that has killed dozens in Mexico and sickened 20 in the U.S., said the nation’s director of Homeland Security Sunday.

Secretary Janet Napolitano also said border patrol agents have been directed to begin passive surveillance of travelers from Mexico, with instructions to isolate anyone who appears actively ill with suspected influenza.

The number of cases confirmed in the United States by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now 20, including eight New York City high school students. Other cases are in Ohio, California, Texas and Kansas. Patients have ranged in age from 9 to over 50.

“As we look for swine flu, we are seeing more cases of swine flu and we expect to see more cases of swine flu," said Dr. Richard Besser, acting director of the CDC, during a White House press conference Sunday. "We view this more as a marathon."

Napolitano said the emergency declaration is a warning, not an actual imminent emergency, similar to preparing for a hurricane.

"I wish we could call it a declaration of emergency preparedness,” Napolitano said.

Besser noted that compared to cases in Mexico, “what we’re seeing in this country is mild disease,” nothing that the U.S. cases would not have been detected without increased surveillance.

“The real important take away is that we have an outbreak of a new infectious disease that we’re addressing aggressively,” Besser said. He said he still can’t say why cases in U.S. are so much milder than the deadly cases in Mexico. There, the disease has killed up to 86 people and likely sickened up to 1,400 since April 13, said Mexico's health minister.

The incubation period for this virus is 24 to 48 hour period. President Barack Obama recently traveled to Mexico but the president’s health was never in any danger, said John Brennan, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security.

President Barack Obama has received regular briefings from advisers on the swine flu outbreak and the White House readied guidance for Americans.

“The government can’t solve this alone, we need everybody to take some responsibility,” Napolitano said.

Besser urged Americans to practice frequent handwashing and to stay home if they feel sick. “If your children are sick, have a fever and flu-like illness, they shouldn’t go to school.”

The U.S. will begin screening travelers at the nation’s borders and isolating people who are actively ill with suspected influenza, the director of Homeland Security said today. No travel restrictions are issued currently, but that could change, she said.

Napolitano said she’d ordered border officials to start passive surveillance protocols to screen people at U.S. borders. asking "Are you sick? Have you been sick?"

Health officials said the facts of the outbreak don’t yet warrant testing or quarantine of travelers from Mexico, but that that could change if the situation gets worse.

Officials said Sunday they are considering whether to begin manufacture of a vaccine.

“At this point, there is not a vaccine for this swine flu strain,” Besser said.

Deaths in Mexico
Symptoms in the New York cases have been mild, said New York City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden. New York health officials said more than 100 students at the St. Francis Preparatory School, in Queens, recently began suffering a fever, sore throat and aches and pains. Some of their relatives also have been ill.

Monitoring possible cases
State infectious-diseases, epidemiology and disaster preparedness workers have been dispatched to monitor and respond to possible cases of the flu. Gov. David Paterson said 1,500 treatment courses of the antiviral Tamiflu had been sent to New York City.

The city health department has asked doctors to be extra vigilant and test patients who have flu symptoms and have traveled recently to California, Texas or Mexico.

Investigators also were testing children who fell ill at a day care center in the Bronx. Two families in Manhattan also have contacted the city, saying they had recently returned ill from Mexico with flu symptoms, Frieden said.

Frieden said New Yorkers having trouble breathing due to an undiagnosed respiratory illness should seek treatment but shouldn't become overly alarmed. Medical facilities near St. Francis Prep have already been flooded with people overreacting to the outbreak, he said.

Kansas health officials said Saturday that they had confirmed swine flu in a married couple living in the central part of the state after the husband visited Mexico. The couple, who live in Dickinson County, weren't hospitalized, and the state described their illnesses as mild.

"Fortunately, the man and woman understand the gravity of the situation and are very willing to isolate themselves," said Dr. Jason Eberhart-Phillips, the state health officer.

Swine flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A flu viruses, the CDC's Web site says. Human cases are uncommon but can occur in people who are around pigs. It also can be spread from person to person. Symptoms include a high fever, body aches, coughing, sore throat and respiratory congestion.

No immunity
Health officials are concerned because people appear to have no immunity to the virus, a combination of bird, swine and human influenzas. The virus also presents itself like other swine flus, but none of the U.S. cases appear to involve direct contact with pigs, Eberhart-Phillips said.

Past flu pandemics

1918:
The Spanish flu pandemic that started in 1918 was possibly the deadliest outbreak of all time. It was first identified in the U.S., but became known as the Spanish flu because it received more media attention in Spain than in other countries, which were censoring the press during World War I. The 1918 flu was an H1N1 strain — different from the one currently affecting Mexico and the U.S. — and struck mostly healthy young adults. Experts estimate it killed about 40 to 50 million people worldwide.

1957:
The 1957 pandemic was known as the Asian flu. It was sparked by an H2N2 strain and was first identified in China. There were two waves of illness during this pandemic; the first wave mostly hit children while the second mostly affected the elderly. It caused about 2 million deaths globally.

The most recent pandemic, known as the Hong Kong flu, was the mildest of the three pandemics this century. It was first spotted in Hong Kong in 1968 and it spread globally over the next two years. In a discussion this morning with a cell biologist and medical doctor working at Johns Hopkins, my friend thought this 4-part flu combination is highly unusual and looks like it could be man-made. Especially because it has an avian strain. My doctor friend (he's Taiwanese) explained that in Asia, it's common for a avian-swine-human flu to happen naturally, but this virus first showed up in Mexico, where pigs and ducks are not usually raised together. Also, recombination of more than 2-different flu viruses is extremely rare. I'm just repeating what he said as an expert in the field. He says the CDC needs to explain if there is a possibility that we are under a bio-weapon attack.

Anne Schuchat, director of CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said that the American cases were found to be made up of genetic elements from four different flu viruses -- North American swine influenza, North American avian influenza, human influenza A virus subtype H1N1, and swine influenza virus typically found in Asia and Europe.

For two cases a complete genome sequence had been obtained. She said that the virus was resistant to amantadine and rimantadine, but susceptible to oseltamivir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza).[22][23][24] Preliminary genetic characterization found that the hemagglutinin (HA) gene was similar to that of swine flu viruses present in U.S. pigs since 1999, but the neuraminidase (NA) and matrix protein (M) genes resembled versions present in European swine flu isolates. Viruses with this genetic makeup had not previously been found to be circulating in humans or pigs, but there is no formal national surveillance system to determine what viruses are circulating in pigs in the U.S.[25]

The seasonal influenza strain H1N1 vaccine is thought to be unlikely to provide protection.[26]

Here's more from AP via Seattle Post Intelligencer: The worrisome new virus - which combines genetic material from pigs, birds and humans in a way researchers have not seen before - also sickened at least eight people in Texas and California, though there have been no deaths in the U.S.

Update: doctor friend also says that what is also unusual is that this type/combination virus is the based on the same strain as in the 1918 Spanish flu virus (H1N1) outbreak (extremely deadly, 25 million dead in 25 weeks; total dead 50-100 million dead; 2.5%-5% of the world population). This makes the virus extremely deadly. The likelihood that this combination with the most deadly strain would happen naturally is very, very low.

The CDC has analyzed samples of the H1N1 virus from some of the U.S. patients, all of whom have recovered, and said it is a never-before-seen mixture of viruses from swine, birds and humans.
Not really, the creators may be betting that this highly deadly strain further mutates. According to my Doctor source from JHU, it is not necessary to do it in the lab, when nature gets hold of it the virus evolves on its own, it can become very deadly. According to, the natural mutation rate of Influenza virus is 1.5 *10^(-5) per nucleotide per infectious cycle (each individual replication within the cell). That means each of the millions of cells in one body that becomes infected will be mutated at a rate of 1.5 *10^(-5) (10^(-5) = 1.5/10,000)

General influenza mortality rate is 0.1%, that means this is 20 times more deadly (2.0%), that's really bad. If the virus mutates in the general population, the mortality rate will likely increase. (It can mutate to become less deadly, but nobody would notice, we can hope, but that's not a strategy to combat infectious diseases.) The 1918 influenza virus mortality rate was 2%-20%.)

If one million people get the virus, 20,000 dead, at current rates.

Mutation is neutral, that means that 50% will be more deadly and 50% less deadly, but at a mutation rate of 1.5/10,000 per per nucleotide per infectious cycle, 50% of these mutation will be more deadly. And, since this virus has already mutated to become extremely deadly (i.e., 1918), the possibility of this super, possibly human-engineered, 4-virus combination (strain) to become extremely deadly again is greater than 0. How much greater, we don't know with current information.

Train carrying deadly virus arrives in Moscow

A Chinese woman has died from what may be Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) while traveling on a train from the Far East Russian city of Blagoveshchensk to Moscow, a medical source said on Wednesday.

The train was stopped at the Zuyevka station in central Russia's Kirov Region, and 53 passengers, all Chinese nationals, were sent to a local hospital.

The Kirov Region administration said on its website that the Chinese nationals had been quarantined as "the cause of the death of the young woman has not yet been established."

It also said that "all necessary measures" had been taken to prevent the spread of "possible infection."

The carriage in which the 23-year-old woman was travelling was disconnected from the rest of the train, which then continued on its way to the capital. It is due to arrive in north Moscow's Yaroslavl train terminal early on Thursday.

A spokesman for Russia's sanitary watchdog was unable to confirm that the woman had died from SARS, Ria-Novosti reports.

"Doctors are currently establishing a preliminary diagnosis," he said.

The Chinese embassy in Moscow has said it has no information on the incident.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome is a respiratory disease in humans which is caused by the SARS coronavirus.

There has been one near pandemic to date, between November 2002 and July 2003, with 8,096 known infected cases and 774 deaths (a case-fatality rate of 9.6%) worldwide being listed in the World Health Organization's (WHO) 21 April 2004 concluding report. Within a matter of weeks in early 2003, SARS spread from the Guangdong province of China to rapidly infect individuals in some 37 countries around the world.

Mortality by age group as of 8 May 2003 is below 1 percent for people aged 24 or younger, 6 percent for those 25 to 44, 15 percent in those 45 to 64 and more than 50 percent for those over 65. New satellite data released by U.S. government scientists indicate no let-up in a 10-year warming trend that is shrinking and thinning the Arctic sea ice surrounding the Earth's North Pole.

The U.S. space agency NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado, have been monitoring Arctic sea ice from space since 1979. Center research scientist Walt Meier says the last six years have shown the lowest Arctic sea ice cover on record. He says this year's cover is shaping up to be the fifth lowest ever.

"We used to have an amount of winter ice cover at the maximum that was about twice the size of the lower 48 United States, and at 5.85 square miles, we are about 278,000 square miles less than we were during the 1979 to 2000 average."

That, Meier says, is now about the size of the state of Texas.

The extent of sea ice cover and its thickness are measures of the health of the Arctic. Meier says the older, thicker ice is melting away and being replaced by newer, thinner ice.

"In terms of the thickest ice and the oldest - or greater than two years old - that's been on a pretty big decline over the last couple years."

During the winter, winds and currents push some of the thick, multi-year ice out of the Arctic Ocean. In the past, that thicker ice was replenished by new ice that survived several summer melt seasons
Meier adds that it is the lowest ever at the end of the winter season, just under 10 percent - down from 40 to 50 percent in the 1980s and 1990s.

"We are getting an ice cover as we finish the winter and head into the summer that is much more vulnerable to the summer melt and much more likely to melt more completely and expose that dark ocean," he says.

Arctic sea ice works like an air conditioner for the global climate system. It naturally cools air and water and reflects solar radiation back into space. Meier says a warmer Arctic and thinner sea ice cap changes the balance between the normally cold Arctic and warmer lower latitudes.

"That contrast between the cold pole and the warm equatorial regions and lower latitudes is one of the things that sets up your circulation patterns, your winds, your ocean circulation and essentially your weather patterns, and so all of those things are subject to change as the ice cover changes."

Changes to the ice cover, Meier says, also impact Arctic wildlife and the people who depend on the frozen ecosystem.

"There are also very big implications for shipping through the Arctic and opening up commercial shipping lanes potentially and extraction of natural resources."

Meier says competition for those resources, as countries move in to stake out claims in the newly unfrozen north, could threaten global security.

About 180 killed by earthquake in Italy

A huge earthquake in central Italy killed almost 180 people as thousands of homeless sought shelter in hastily built tent cities. According to AFP News Agency Italian quake death toll rises to 179. The death toll is expected to rise.

The civil protection agency said that more than 70,000 people have been made homeless by a magnitude 6.2 quake and damaged 10,000 buildings, leveling many.

Some people took refuge in army barracks, stadiums and sports centres as nighttime temperatures dropped to about four degrees Celsius in the Abruzzo region.

Roughly 4,000 rescue workers were at the site and Italy will be able to access the European Union's disaster fund, said Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi who canceled a trip to Moscow to be at the scene in Italy's rugged mountain region about 60 miles northeast of Rome.

The earthquake was Italy's worst since 2,570 people were killed southeast of Naples in 1980.

Berlusconi said a tent city with 2,000 tents that can house 8-10 people was being set up for people left homeless. Interior Minister Roberto Maroni said some of the homeless would be put up in hotels as well, UPI reports.

The majority of residents had left the region by Monday night, either of their own volition or after being escorted by the authorities.

"You can say that most of the old city has been emptied of its residents," a public safety official said, adding that it was mostly elderly people who decided to stay.

Using floodlights and bulldozers workers attempted to find survivors, some who had been trapped for more than 20 hours, through Monday night.

One boy was pulled alive from the rubble.

"All we could see was his head sticking from the rubble, his entire body was buried," one of the firemen who rescued him said.

"We kept digging, picking piece by piece of debris and we finally managed to get him out - when we did, the fatigue was great but so was our joy," he said.

L'Aquila , where most of the dead are, has a population of 68,000 and lies about 100km northeast of Rome, the capital, Aljazeera reports.

The neighbouring villages of Villa Sant'Angelo and Borgo di Castelnuovo were almost completely destroyed.

During your illegal occupancy of the White House, you also exposed the corporate-controlled media for what they really are, profit-driven machines dealing in sensationalism and superficiality so they don’t have to cover actual news.

Today these media unabashedly refer to the conflict in Iraq as an “unpopular war.” But just a few years ago they were the primary cheerleaders fueling this war, silencing anti-war voices, and even firing reporters who questioned your motives for invading Iraq.

Your seventy-five percent disapproval rating today masks the fact that just a few years ago your approval rating stood at eighty-six percent, and at pro-war rallies throughout America participants were speaking of you and your fellow war criminals as if you were deities. What a different world it would now be if this eighty-six percent had recognized the depths of your evil before the coup of 2000, instead of when it was too late.

I wish there was a silver lining to the clouds that shrouded America for the past eight years. Many Americans shared your arrogance, and it blinded them to your hypocrisy. “America,” they claimed, “was better than those petty dictatorships in third-world countries that loathe democracy, freedom and human rights.” And thus they allowed you to turn America into the very beast they claimed to abhor.

THURSDAY, Jan. 8 (HealthDay News) -- The most common strain of flu this season is resistant to the popular antiviral drug Tamiflu, but government health officials said Thursday there is no reason to panic.

The fact that the flu season so far has been slow, and that other drugs work well against this particular flu virus, has health officials adopting a watchful attitude for now.

While the cause of the mutation that made the virus resistant to Tamiflu (oseltamivir) isn't known, experts suspect it was caused by the wide use of Tamiflu in other countries to treat upper respiratory infections.

There were reports last year from Europe and other countries that a certain type of flu -- H1N1 -- was resistant to oseltamivir, according to Dr. Joseph Bresee, chief of flu prevention at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This year, the CDC was on the lookout for flu resistance to Tamiflu in the United States and, sure enough, it showed up. Moreover, the proportion of the strain that is resistant has gone up from around 10 percent last year to all of the H1N1 strains this year, Bresee said.

Two weeks ago, the CDC issued new guidelines urging doctors to test suspected flu cases to see if they are influenza A or influenza B, and if they are A, whether they are H1 or H3 viruses, Bresee said.

"We didn't want to make a big deal out of this," Bresee said. "We think it's interesting. We think it's worth monitoring closely, but we are still watching. When we see more, then we will get a better sense of what the public health impact of it is. We don't have a good feel of that yet."

The resistant strain is the most common type of flu circulating in the United States right now, but the season is early and the number of cases is low, Bresee said.

As more flu cases are reported, other strains of the virus may become more common, Bresee added.

"What happens frequently is that one type of flu will circulate at one time in the season and be replaced by another type later in the season, so in a week's time, a month's time, we may have mostly H3s or mostly Bs, which oseltamivir works wonderfully for," he explained.

To be most effective, Tamiflu, made by Roche, needs to taken within 48 hours after flu symptoms appear, Bresee said. "Generally, antivirals for influenza are underused in the U.S.," he added.

Most people with flu are not treated, Bresee noted. "Clearly, it's a self-limited disease and you will get over it," he said.

The Doomsday Clock conveys how close humanity is to catastrophic destruction--the figurative midnight--and monitors the means humankind could use to obliterate itself. First and foremost, these include nuclear weapons, but they also encompass climate-changing technologies and new developments in the life sciences that could inflict irrevocable harm.

Nuclear
The nuclear age dawned in the 1940s when scientists learned how to release the energy stored within the atom. Immediately, they thought of two potential uses--an unparalleled weapon and a new energy source. The United States built the first atomic bombs during World War II, which they used on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. Within two decades, Britain, the Soviet Union, China, and France had also established nuclear weapon programs. Since then, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea have built nuclear weapons as well.

For most of the Cold War, overt hostility between the United States and Soviet Union, coupled with their enormous nuclear arsenals, defined the nuclear threat. The U.S. arsenal peaked at about 30,000 warheads in the mid-1960s and the Soviet arsenal at 40,000 warheads in the 1980s, dwarfing all other nuclear weapon states. The scenario for nuclear holocaust was simple: Heightened tensions between the two jittery superpowers would lead to an all-out nuclear exchange. Today, the potential for an accidental or inadvertent nuclear exchange between the United States and Russia remains, with both countries anachronistically maintaining more than 1,000 warheads on high alert, ready to launch within tens of minutes, even though a deliberate attack by Russia or the United States on the other seems improbable.

Unfortunately, however, in a globalized world with porous national borders, rapid communications, and expanded commerce in dual-use technologies, nuclear know-how and materials travel more widely and easily than before--raising the possibility that terrorists could obtain such materials and crudely construct a nuclear device of their own. The materials necessary to construct a bomb pervade the world--in part due to programs initiated by the United States and Soviet Union to spread civilian nuclear power technology and research reactors during the Cold War.

As a result, according to the International Panel on Fissile Materials, substantial quantities of highly enriched uranium, one of the materials necessary for a bomb, remain in more than 40 non-weapon states. Save for Antarctica, every continent contains at least one country with civilian highly enriched uranium. Even with the improvement of nuclear reactor design and international controls provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), proliferation concerns persist, as the components and infrastructure for a civilian nuclear power program can also be used to construct nuclear weapons.

Much of the recent discussions focuses on Iran and its pursuit of a civilian nuclear power capability, but Mohammed ElBaradei, the IAEA director general, estimates that another 20 to 30 countries possess the capabilities, if not the intent, to pursue the bomb. Meanwhile, the original nuclear weapon states (in particular, Britain, France, Russia, and the United States) continue to modernize their nuclear arsenals, with little effort to relinquish these weapons. All of which leads many to believe that the world is embarking on a second nuclear age.

Climate Change
Fossil-fuel technologies such as coal-burning plants powered the industrial revolution, bringing unparalleled economic prosperity to many parts of the world. But in the 1950s, scientists began measuring year-to-year changes in the carbon-dioxide concentration in the atmosphere that they could relate to fossil-fuel combustion, and they began to see the implications for Earth's temperature and for climate change.

Today, the concentration of carbon dioxide is higher than at any time during the last 650,000 years. These gases warm Earth's continents and oceans by acting like a giant blanket that keeps the sun's heat from leaving the atmosphere, melting ice and triggering a number of ecological changes that cause an increase in global temperature. Even if carbon-dioxide emissions were to cease immediately, the extra gases already added to the atmosphere, which linger for centuries, would continue to raise sea level and change other characteristics of the Earth for hundreds of years.

The most authoritative scientific group on the issue, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), suggests that warming on the order of 2-10 degrees Fahrenheit over the next 100 years is a distinct possibility if the industrialized world doesn't curb its carbon dioxide emissions habit. Effects could include wide-ranging, dramatic changes. One drastic result: a 3- to 34-inch rise in sea level, leading to more coastal erosion, increased flooding during storms, and, in some regions such as the Indus River Delta in Bangladesh and the Mississippi River Delta in the United States, permanent inundation. This sea-level rise will affect coastal cities (New York, Miami, Shanghai, London) the most, compelling major shifts in human settlement patterns.

Inland, the IPCC predicts that another century of temperature increases could place severe stress on forests, alpine regions, and other ecosystems, threaten human health as mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects and rodents spread lethal viruses and bacteria over larger geographical regions, and harm agricultural efforts by reducing rainfall in many food-producing areas while at the same time increasing flooding in others--any of which could contribute to mass migrations and wars over arable land, water, and other natural resources.

Biosecurity
Advances in genetics and biology over the last five decades have inspired a host of new possibilities--both positive and troubling.

With greater understanding of genetic material and of how physiological systems interact, biologists can fight disease better and improve overall human health. Scientists already have begun to develop bioengineered vaccines for common diseases such as dengue fever and certain forms of hepatitis. They are using these tools to develop other innovative medical solutions, including cells that have been bioengineered to serve as physiological "pacemakers." The mapping of the complete human genome in 2001 allows for even greater understanding of human functioning. As a consequence of the Human Genome Project, scientists have already identified more than 1,800 genes associated with particular diseases.

But along with their potential benefits, these technological advances raise the possibility that individuals or non-state actors could create dangerous known or novel pathogens. Additionally, researchers with the best intentions could inadvertently create novel pathogens that could harm humans or other species. For example, in 2001, researchers in Australia reported that they had accidentally created a new, virulent strain of the mousepox virus while attempting to genetically engineer a more effective rodent control method.

Unlike the biological weapons of the last century, these new tools could create a limitless variety of threats, from new types of “nonlethal” agents, to viruses that sterilize their hosts, to others that incapacitate whole systems within an organism. The wide availability of bioengineering knowledge and tools, along with the ease with which individuals can obtain specific fragments of genetic material (some can be ordered through the mail or over the internet), could allow these capabilities to find their way into unspecified hands or even those of backyard hobbyists. Such potential dangers are forcing scientists, institutions, and industry to develop self-governing mechanisms to prevent misuse. But developing a system to ensure the safe use of bioengineering, without impeding beneficial research and development, could pose the greatest international science and security challenge during the next 50 years.

Yellowstone Park Earthquake Swarm Raises Alarms

It’s New Years Eve, and everyone is supposed to be having a good time tonight. We celebrate the end of the old and the beginning of the new year. Others tonight are pondering the potential danger that could be eminent. No one really knows what is going to happen, but scientists are keeping a close eye on things.

A large number of the earthquakes have been between 3 and 4 in magnitude. These kinds of swarms are often indicative of something to come in the way of volcanic activity. Yellowstone is really a large volcano. The BBC coined the term “super volcano” in 2000.

Yellowstone blew it’s lid 2.1 million years ago releasing an estimated thousand cubic miles of ash into the atmosphere. That was 10 times worse than the volcano that nearly wiped out human kind 74,000 years ago.

It should be noted that all the earthquakes have been intense and concentrated in one area, which happens to be above the magna chamber. The scariest part of this story is the “harmonic tremors” that scientists have picked up. They are a low level constant rumbling, which usually indicates magna movement.

It is most likely that the seismic activity is due to volcanic activity. To some, it is almost certain that some sort of eruption will occur. The only question remaining is how big it will be.
Others say there is not much to worry about.

Russian Military Confirms 13 Strategic Missile Launches For 2009

Russia's Strategic Missile Forces plan 13 training missile launches for next year, the forces commander Col.-Gen. Nikolai Solovtsov said Wednesday. "We have scheduled 13 training launches for 2009. The number could come down a bit," he said.
The commander said last month that the forces were planning to conduct at least 13 launches of ballistic missiles next year.

"We are planning to carry out 13 launches in 2009: five test launches of new missiles, three launches to confirm the extension of missiles' service lives, and five launches of converted SS-18 Satan ICBMs under the Dnepr program to orbit various satellites," Solovtsov said in November.

The Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) conducted seven launches of ballistic missiles in 2008 and postponed two launches until next year.

Solovtsov also said in November that the SMF would put into service in 2009 systems equipped with new-generation RS-24 intercontinental ballistic missiles, bearing multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) warheads.

Russia carried out a third successful test of the RS-24 on November 26.

According to open sources, the total arsenal of Russia's SMF comprises 536 ICBMs, including 306 SS-25 Topol (Sickle) missiles and 54 SS-27 Topol-M (Stalin) missiles.

Afghan Taliban urge Muslims to rise up over Gaza raids

Afghanistan's Taliban guerrillas Monday called on the world's Muslims to unite and wage war against Israel in response to its air strikes that have killed more than 300 Palestinians in Gaza.

The Taliban, who lead an insurgency against the Afghan government and the Western forces backing it, also chided the United States and some European nations for not condemning the attacks, launched after a six-month cease-fire between Israel and the Islamist group Hamas expired.

"We expect that the Islamic Umah to throw aside the wings of negligence, rise up and wage ... jihad and practically help the Muslims of Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan," the Taliban said in a statement on the group's website.

The al Qaeda-backed Taliban, toppled from power in a U.S.-led invasion in 2001, are most active in southern and eastern Afghanistan, but have managed to spread their attacks to other parts of the country, including Kabul, since regrouping in 2005.

The Islamist group has vowed to drive out the nearly 70,000 foreign troops serving under NATO and the U.S. military's command in Afghanistan.

Earlier, the Afghan foreign ministry condemned Israel's attacks and demanded an immediate end to hostilities in Gaza.

Separately, a group of Afghans held a protest against the strikes in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif Monday, residents said.

Six months of secret planning - then Israel moves against Hamas

Even as Israel's F16s were aiming their first deadly salvoes at Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, questions were being asked at home and abroad, about what this "shock and awe" campaign was intended to achieve - and what Israel's exit strategy would be.

Preparations

Unlike the confused and improvised Israeli response as the war against Hizbullah in Lebanon unfolded in 2006, Operation Cast Lead appears to have been carefully prepared over a long period.

Israeli media reports, by usually well-informed correspondents and analysts, alluded yesterday to six months of intelligence-gathering to pinpoint Hamas targets including bases, weapon silos, training camps and the homes of senior officials. The cabinet spent five hours discussing the plan in detail on December 19 and left the timing up to Ehud Olmert, the caretaker prime minister, and his defence minister Ehud Barak. Preparations involved disinformation and deception which kept Israel's media in the dark. According to Ha'aretz, that also lulled Hamas into a sense of false security and allowed the initial aerial onslaught to achieve tactical surprise - and kill many of the 290 victims counted so far.

Friday's decision to allow food, fuel and humanitarian supplies into besieged Gaza - ostensibly a gesture in the face of international pressure to relieve the ongoing blockade - was part of this. So was Thursday's visit to Cairo by Tzipi Livni, Israel's foreign minister, to brief Egyptian officials. The final decision was reportedly made on Friday morning.

Why now?

Barak said yesterday the timing of the operation was dictated by Israel's patience simply "having running out" in the face of renewed rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza into Israel when the shaky six-month ceasefire expired 10 days ago. "Any other sovereign nation would do the same," is the official Israeli refrain. Amid the storm of international criticism of Israel's hugely disproportionate response, it is easy to overlook the domestic pressure faced by the Israeli government over its handling of "Hamastan".

Homemade Qassam rockets and mortars rarely kill but they do terrify and have undermined Israel's deterrent power as well as keeping 250,000 residents of the south of the country in permanent danger.

But the context now is February's Israeli elections. The contest that matters is between Livni's centrist Kadima party and the rightwing Likud under Binyamin Netanyahu, who talks only of "economic peace" with the Palestinians and does not want an independent Palestinian state, as Livni does. Opinion polls show that it pays to talk tough: Livni's standing has improved in recent days. The US political timetable may be as significant. The three weeks before Barack Obama's inauguration were Israel's last chance to assume automatic diplomatic support from Washington, as it got from George Bush over both West Bank settlements and the Lebanon war.

It is hard to imagine an Israeli government testing Obama, whom it views with foreboding because of a sense he has more sympathy for the Palestinians, with a crisis of these dimensions during his first days or weeks in office.

Game plan

Livni and other Israeli officials have spoken openly of wishing to topple Hamas since the Islamist movement took over from the western-backed, Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority (PA) in June 2007. But this may be something less ambitious. "The realistic objective of any military operation is not the ousting of Hamas, but rather ... undermining its military effectiveness and weakening its rule," is the view of Yediot Aharonot analyst Alex Fishman. Ron Ben-Yishai, another military expert, called it an attempt to "change the rules of the game." This appears to be a case of "asymmetric warfare" in which the weaker party commands disproportionate force - by repeatedly firing crude rockets or using suicide bombers - and the more powerful one responds with a massive, disproportionate blow. "The objective of an Israeli military operation in Gaza must be to undermine Hamas' desire to keep fighting, and at that point agree on a ceasefire," said Fishman.

Israel is well-informed about what happens in Gaza. Its premise is that Hamas is unpopular and that by targeting its personnel it can encourage that trend. But not all the victims are from Hamas. Some are civilians and there are security officers who belong to Fatah. And nor, crucially, has the PA been able to deliver a peace agreement with Israel, or even end its settlement activity. Most significantly, the scale of the bloodshed - ranking in Palestinian history alongside the 1948 Deir Yassin killings or the Sabra and Shatila massacres (by Israel's Christian Lebanese allies) in 1982 means renewed motives for hatred and revenge.

What next?

Israel said yesterday that it is calling up thousands of reservists. There can be little doubt that it could reoccupy and hold the coastal strip - as it did from 1967 to 2005 - but tanks and infantry would be vulnerable in guerrilla warfare against lightly-armed but highly-motivated Hamas or Islamic Jihad fighters. Civilian casualties would grow with international pressure. The only reason to deploy ground forces would be to achieve something air power could not - searching for rocket production and storage facilities that have not yet been identified.

Israeli commentators suggest the army has no appetite for a ground war, making comparisons with Lebanon in 2006, and pointing to the impending elections. Another key question for the military must be the fate of Gilad Shalit, the Israeli corporal held in Gaza since he was captured in 2006. It is hard to see negotiations on his release, and of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, continuing in these circumstances.

Repercussions

The Gaza offensive has already fuelled anti-Israeli and anti-American feeling across the Arab world. Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, faces demands for an end to any talks with Israel. Hamas, calling for a "third intifada," accused Egypt and Jordan of colluding with the Gaza plan. If there is a silver lining in this dark cloud it is to have shown that working to achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East is still a desperately urgent task.

THE 8 8 08 Olympics

The Olympics are what is right about the world. On this last Friday,
the eighth day of the eighth month of the eighth year of the new
millennium we witnessed a fantastic spectacle, a peaceful gathering
of the many nations of our small blue planet; a competition of the best
young athletes from all over the world. The Olympics make us proud
to be humans; proud to be citizens of Earth.
Sadly, on this same day, we saw what future historians will count as
the day that the Third World War began. It was designed this way,
by the evil people who worked hard to begin the war under the cover
of the Olympics.
We all like to be right, myself included, but sometimes it is not so
wonderful. I have written a series of articles over the last few weeks
on the coming nightmare centered on the neo-con grand strategy. I
predicted the outbreak of hostilities in Georgia and Russia and said
that there is a strong link between what is happening there and to
what is about to happen against Iran. I said that the war in Georgia
was intended as a strategic distraction for Russia as America, the
United Kingdom, France, Israel, and others assemble their large naval
blockade of Iran, but a strategic distraction that would backfire. I
also described the massive US Naval armada headed for Iran; the make-
up of this extremely large and powerful force is as I described it several
days ago (this has now been confirmed by Israeli sources).
As Russian troops and air force pilots, and thousands of Russian civilians
die in combat in Europe for the first time since 1945, only miles from
their homeland (on land that was part of the Russian Empire and Soviet
Union for centuries), the sleeping Russian Bear has been awaken and filled
with a terrible resolve. The fact that only within the last few weeks have
the 1,000+ American Marines - sent in to train the Georgians for this very
war - left is not overlooked by the Russians.
The fact that (according to DEBKA the well-connected Israeli strategy
and military site) over 1,000 Israeli "mercenaries" are actively engaged
in combat with the Russian Army on the side of the Georgians is also
not overlooked. The fact that the American neo-con administration
and the Israelis have been engaged in a fury of advanced arms sales
and deliveries over the last year, and that these weapons are killing
Russians on their own historic territory, is not overlooked.
The fact that the Bush administration tried very hard to get its
European NATO partners to accept Georgia as a NATO member without
success (too many European nations saw the trap and smelled a
rather large rat), and the fact that had this neo-con gambit succeeded
NATO would be in war against Russia now ~ this also is not overlooked
by the Russian bear. The fact that the Georgian Defense Minister is a
'former' Israeli and many current and retired Israeli generals are deeply
involved in Georgia is also not overlooked by the Russian bear.
The American-supported, Israeli commando-staffed, attack on the
civilian population of South Ossetia ~ where Georgian troops conducted
volley-fire artillery cleanings of a number of villages and settlements
housing Russian citizens, destroying people's homes and killing 1,500
civilians (and killing 10 lightly armed Russian peacekeeping troops and
wounding 30) in the opening stages of the attack ~ is also not
overlooked by the Russians. This is the Russian 9/11.
While the Russian 9/11 was taking place, the massive American/British/
French naval armada was/is assembling to begin the blockade of Iran (a
blockade is considered an act of war under international law), and the
European Union, acting under cover of the media coverage of the Olympics,
has formally approved a blockade of Iran (not using the word blockade
but establishing tough new sanctions on Iran with cargo inspections
and intercepts ~ in other words a BLOCKADE). Neither Russia nor
China, which gets a large percentage of its oil and natural gas from Iran,
are willing to allow this to happen. The strategic distraction for Russia is
not going to work; nor is China going to allow its distraction ~ the hosting
of the Olympics ~ to rob it of its strategic source of oil and natural gas,
so necessary for its economy.
Grand strategy is very interesting and complex. It is rather like space chess
or space checkers ~ played on several levels. However, in real life grand
strategy, the various levels have players that are often not aware of the
nature of the game on the level above.
We have the Israeli population, a majority who support an attack on Iran,
"to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons of mass destruction", who
do not know that the Iranians already have advanced biological weapons
of mass destruction with potential kill levels very similar to that of strategic nuclear war. They will pay with their lives for this lack of knowledge. On one
level, the neo-cons are all about creating a new Middle East environment
where Israel is safe from any regional Muslin power and holds regional military supremacy. On another level, the global bankers are using Israel and the
neo-cons to bring about the End Game of their long quest to establish a
New World Order with themselves as lords and masters of all those allowed
to remain alive.
At one level, the public is told that Iran "must be stopped from acquiring
nuclear weapons" and that this is the reason for whatever action is
necessary. Of course, we are not told ~ at least by the main stream news
media ~ that even the American intelligence establishment (as well as
United Nations inspectors) state clearly that the Iranian nuclear
enrichment program is but several orders of magnitude below that necessary
for a nuclear weapons program. The reality is that the nuclear enrichment
issue is but a smokescreen for the on-going neo-con grand strategy. This
same grand strategy gave us the 9/11 false flag attacks in America, the
7/7 false flag attack in England, and the Bali and Spanish false flag
"terrorist" attacks and the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. The
next targets on the hit list of the neo-con grand strategy are Syria and
Iran. This has been the plan for years and the neo-cons are staying on
course.
If the well-being of Israel is not the reason for the grand strategy at the
highest level, we have to ask ourselves just what in the hell is the driving
force. Sadly, the answer lies in the wording of the question just posed ~
Hell.
At a certain level you simply cannot separate the military/economic/political/strategic from the spiritual. When you analyze
the grand strategy being employed, you essentially have to come to the conclusion that it is either so damn crazy as to be a form of mass insanity
by its backers or just plain evil. I think that it is the latter.
The blockade is not being set up to "stop" the Iranians ~ there is in reality
nothing to stop in terms of a nuclear weapons program and they already
have a global strategic advanced biowar (ABW) program that is as good
as a global strategic nuclear war program at a fraction of the cost. The
blockade is being set up to cause a war. To cause a war with a nation
that has a true MAD (mutually assured destruction) environment with the
neo-con controlled nations. To cause a war that will eventually result in
the use of weapons of mass destruction throughout the world. To cause
World War III.
The "strategic diversion", that is the war between Georgia and Russia, is
being set up to drive Russia into the devil's brew of the coming war; you
can bet that China will also be given good "reasons" to be totally-committed
in the days and weeks ahead.
There are certain global banking families who have made countless billions
and even trillions over the last 200+ years organizing wars, economic
depressions, revolutions, etc. to profit on everyone's misery. They have
been very successful at this. But it is simply too late in human history to be
doing this now. The level of mass murder/destruction from 21st Century
warfare is beyond our ability to recover. So why continue. Again, we get
back to the question is this just totally crazy or just plain evil.
On the 5th of August, days before the attack on South Ossetia, in my
article "The Good and the Bad and the Truly Ugly", I quoted an interesting prophecy from Nostradamus, Quatrain X.74 which reads "The year of the
great seventh number accomplished, it will appear at the time of the
games of slaughter, not far from the age of the great millennium, when
the dead will come out of their graves." This could refer to the Seven
Year Tribulation, which could well be the time from 9/11/01 to 9/11/08,
at the time of the Olympic Games, not far from the age of the great
millennium (the beginning of the Third Millennium in 2000/2001), and
Armageddon (when many dead saints are suppose to "come out of their
graves"). It is interesting that the dates of the 9/11 and 7/7 attacks and
now the 8/8/8 attack all have occult meanings.
I suspect that this is all simply unstoppable. However, being human we
want to live not be killed in some insane Third World War. The trouble is,
time is very short and most political leaders are totally corrupt, bought
and paid for time and again by many of the same forces arranging the
coming global war. Still, if you want to live, contact your political leaders
and demand that they stop the coming war on Iran and the resulting global nightmare. It may be you only hope to stop the events that are unfolding
before our very eyes. My most recent article, MASSIVE US NAVAL ARAMADA HEADS FOR IRAN, has become perhaps the largest "happening" in the history
of the Internet. It has been posted on a truly massive number of web sites
and blogs, emailed to hundreds of thousands, and seen by more people than
any similar article in history. This was done not by the main stream lying
media
or by political hacks but by ordinary people concerned about their lives
and the lives of their friends and loved ones in the days and weeks ahead.

The USS Iwo Jima and USS Peleliu Expeditionary Strike Groups
have USMC Harrier jump jets and an assortment of assault and
attack helicopters. The Expeditionary Strike Groups have
powerful USMC Expeditionary Units with amphibious armor and
ground forces trained for operating in shallow waters and in
seizures of land assets, such as Qeshm Island (a 50 mile long
island off of Bandar Abbas in the Gulf of Hormuz and headquarters
of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps).
The large and very advanced nature of the US Naval warships is
not only directed at Iran. There is a great fear that Russia and
China may oppose the naval and air/land blockade of Iran. If Russian
and perhaps Chinese naval warships escort commercial tankers to
Iran in violation of the blockade it could be the most dangerous at-
sea confrontation since the Cuban Missile Crisis. The US and allied
Navies, by front loading a Naval blockade force with very powerful
guided missile warships and strike carriers is attempting to have
a force so powerful that Russia and China will not be tempted to
mess with. This is a most serious game of military brinkmanship
with major nuclear armed powers that have profound objections
to the neo-con grand strategy and to western control of all of the
Middle East's oil supply.
The Russian Navy this spring sent a major battle fleet into the
Mediterranean headed by the modern aircraft carrier the Admiral
Kuznetsov and the flagship of its Black Sea Fleet, the Guided Missile
Heavy Cruiser Moskva. This powerful fleet has at least 11 surface
ships and unknown numbers of subs and can use the Russian naval
facility at Syria's Tartous port for re-supply. The Admiral Kuznetsov
carries approximately 47 warplanes and 10 helicopters. The
warplanes are mostly the powerful Su-33, a naval version (with
mid-air refueling capability) of the Su-27 family. While the Su-33
is a very powerful warplane it lacks the power of the stealth USAF
F-22. However, the Russians insist that they have developed a
plasma based system that allows them to stealth any aircraft and
a recent incident where Russian fighters were able to appear
unannounced over a US Navy carrier battle group tends to confirm
their claims. The Su-33 can be armed with the 3M82 Moskit sea-
skimming missile (NATO code name SS-N-22 Sunburn) and the even
more powerful P-800 Oniks (also named Yakhonts; NATO code name
SS-N-26 Onyx). Both missiles are designed to kill US Navy supercarriers
by getting past the cruiser/destroyer screen and the USN point-
defense Phalanx system by using high supersonic speeds and violent
end maneuvers. Russian subs currently use the underwater rocket
VA-111 Shkval (Squall), which is fired from standard 533mm torpedo
tubes and reaches a speed of 360kph (230mph) underwater. There
is no effective countermeasures to this system and no western
counterpart.

The two-ton elephant in the living room of the neo-con strategy is
the advanced biowar (ABW) that Iran, and to a lessor extent Syria,
has. This places the motherlands of the major neo-con nations
(America, France, the United Kingdom), as well as Israel, in grave
danger. When the Soviet Union fell the Iranians hired as many out-
of-work former Soviet advanced biowar experts as possible. In the
last 15 or so years they have helped to develop a truly world class
ABW program utilizing recombination DNA genetic engineering technology
to create a large number of man made killer viruses. This form of
weapon system does not require high tech military delivery systems.
The viruses are sub-microscopic and once seeded in a population
use the population itself as vectors. Seeding can be done without
notice in shopping malls, churches, and other public places. The
only real defense to an advanced global strategic biowar attack is
to lock down the population as rapidly as possible and let those
infected die off.
If this were more widely known, it would be a great casus pax, a
reason for peace, as war between enemies both having weapons
of mass destruction (WMD) is insane. Hence the aptly named "MAD",
for mutually assured destruction, where both sides can cause truly
massive fatalities on their enemy in the event of a all out war.
My recent article, WAR ON IRAN: THE PERFECT STORM FROM HELL,
carried by several of the leading on-line/non-MSM sites, and read
by hundreds of thousands world wide was a frightening eye opener
for many to the intense danger from a all-out war between US/EU/
Israel on one side and Iran/Syria/Hezhollah/Hammas on the other side.
The public has been largely ignorant about the rise of a new type of
global strategic warfare based on Advanced Biological War (ABW).
Most people understand Biological War (BioWar or BW) as powered
anthrax or smallpox and the like. That is really "your grandfather's
biowar". Over the last twenty-five or so years, an entire new level of
mass killing has evolved. Only this new ABW has a technology base
that is far less expensive than than required for entry into the "nuclear
club" of nuclear weapon producing nations. Where it costs approximately
$1 million to kill a person using nuclear weapons, it only costs approximately
$1 to kill one person using ABW weapons. Comparing BW to ABW is like
comparing a old Model T Ford to a 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom ~ both
are automobiles (or types of biological warfare) but there is a
difference of several orders of magnitude. ABW has a kill level in
global strategic warfare similar to that of nuclear war.
It is a known fact that when the Soviet Union fell, the Iranians
offered US$5,000 a month salaries to a large number of destitute
out-of-work former Soviet biowar experts. Not all took Iran up on
the offer, but many did. The Iranians have built up, over the last
15 plus years a truly world class ABW program, as well as co-
developing with Syria the Earth's largest chemical warfare program.
ABW weapons do not require ICBMs and $2 billion dollar per copy
B2 bombers to kill hundreds of millions. The genetically engineered
viruses are sub-microscopic and can be spread unnoticed in public
places and continue spreading, through replication from person to
person. An advance global strategic biological war, like a global
strategic nuclear war, cannot be kept in control. In fact, the
horrific massive death from global strategic biowar will certainly
lead to all-out nuclear war between Russia/China and NATO/Israel

By the middle of the 14th century the commercial routes along the Asian continent were very busy. In the early 1320s, an epidemic broke out in Central Asia and then spread eastwards, to the ultimate borders of China. In that period China was already the most densely populated country on the planet; plague speedily devoured a province after province. Sometimes there were no eyewitnesses alive to tell how many people actually died because of plague. From Central Asia plague began spreading westwards together with merchant caravans. In 1346, plague reached the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea shores. Galleys with exotic goods came to Istanbul from Kaffa (now Feodosia) and brought plague there. The Moslem world got first infected with plague in 1348 and was suffering from recurring outbursts of the disease until the end of the 19th century.

Plague came to Western Europe through the port of Smirna, Sicily. The disease exterminated entire crews of vessels coming from the East. Merchants were anxious about the great number of dead people and had no notion that the disease spread because of dead rats scattered here and there. Goods from the port were distributed all about the continent through Marcel and Genoa thus also spreading plague. The subsequent five years were terribly disastrous and went down in history as the Black Death period.

People infected with plague had painful bubo in groins and underarms. Majority of patients died of plague within five days; when the infection got into lungs together with blood patients died even quicker, in three days. Plague was so rampant that there was no time to dig graves or make coffins for all victims. Special teams of volunteers collected dead bodies and piled them in what was called plague ditches.
It was particularly scary that people still failed to determine the source of the disaster. People sought to blame others, and xenophobia was the norm, scapegoating was popular. Jews were suspected of poisoning wells even though they died of plague as often as others. The church faggoted several women suspected of witchcraft but the situation did not change. Clergy believed that plague was a severe penalty for people's sins and warned the doomsday was approaching. Doctors of the University of Paris stated that the disease was caused by unfavorable arrangement of planets. People believed that plague was carried with miasmas, that is why many people went out of homes with their faces buried in bunches of flowers. They hoped that flower aroma would keep them safe from the disease.

For over 200 years plague raged in the Mediterranean countries and claimed lives of at least 45 million people

Nobody knows when plague appeared. Experts say that plague pestholes still exist in remote parts of Central Asia and some South African countries, Namibia, Angola and South African Republic. And supposedly, the disease had its sources right on these territories. Long ago researchers determined that the plague bacillus lives in organisms of wild rodents and is carried by fleas. But it was just in the mid-1980s that researchers managed to say how an epidemic breaks out. As it turned out, plague pandemic breaks out because of drought. Hungry, weak and diseased rodents abandon their native places in search of food and thus spread plague over vast territories. Sooner or later they reach human habitation. Fleas infected with plague bacilli cling to domestic rodents for which plague turns to be fatal. Then, fleas jump on dogs, cats and humans.

This exchange of the infection is particularly dangerous for people. Just few percent of diseased people survived in the epochs when mankind knew no insecticides or antibiotics. It is believed that the first plague epidemic that left reliable evidence broke out in the 12th century B.C. Old Testament mentions mice that spoiled the ground.

Another plague epidemic gripped all countries of the civilized world and thus was called a pandemic; it came to the Upper Nile from Central Africa in 541. The plague killed thousands of people and reached Alexandria of Egypt, a busy port where tens of merchant vessels dropped anchor every day. Alexandria granaries were packed with grain and certainly there were flocks of rats. This fact predetermined the history of Europe for many centuries ahead. For less than a year plague reached Constantinople where 10,000 people died every day at the epidemic peak. Plague made the Byzantine Empire vulnerable to aggressive neighbors and became the reason of its subsequent extinction.

US to invade Iran any day now?
A few weeks ago the Russian newspaper Izvestia, a well-known and authoritive daily published nationwide and abroad, came forward with something that would have been looked upon as a conspiracy theory if published by a tabloid.

The paper suggested that by attacking South Ossetia, the Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili had badly damaged a planned U.S. military operation against Iran. In the newspaper's opinion Georgia was supposed to play the role of another "unsinkable aircraft carrier" for the U.S., i.e. an operational and tactical base for U.S.
aircraft that would be making bombing raids into Iran. Something akin to what Thailand was in the Vietnam war.

Thailand certainly benefited from the arrangement, and Georgia would have too, insists the paper, if its President hadn't put his ambitions above the US national interest and ended up beaten, disarmed, chewing on his neckties and totally incapable of providing whatever the U.S. needs from him.

That's why, according to Izvestia in yet another article on the matter, the U.S. response to the Russian retaliation was harsh in words but very mild in action. The latest on the issue suggests that Mikhail Saakashvili may be replaced any day now by direct order from Washington.

Having read the story in Izvestia I decided to try to figure out the extent of improbability and impossibility of the assumptions. As I was doing that, I remembered that early in August CNN had started showing U.S. generals who cried for more troops and hardware for Afghanistan which, in their opinion, was rapidly becoming a more intensive conflict than Iraq.

Shortly after that, a phone call came from a college friend who had just come back from Kandahar in Afghanistan, where he had seen American battle tanks being unloaded from a Ukrainian-registered Antonov-124 "Ruslan", the heaviest and largest cargo airplane in the world. The friend asked if I had any idea what tanks would be good for in Afghanistan, and I said I didn't. It's an established fact from the Soviet war in Afghanistan that tanks are no good for most of the country's mountainous territory. They are good for flatlands, and the main body of flat land in the region is right across the border in Iran.

Later in August there was another bit of unofficial information from a Russian military source: more than a thousand American tanks and armored vehicles had been shipped to Eastern Afghanistan by Ukrainian "Ruslans" flying in three to five shipments a day, and more flights were expected.

Somehow all this, together with the series of articles in Izvestia, the information that all U.S. troops in Afghanistan are going to be reassigned and regrouped under unified command, the arrival of NATO naval ships in the Black Sea, the appointment of a man used to command troops in a combat environment as the new commander of the US Central Command and other bits and pieces. To my total astonishment, when they all fell together the Izvestia story started looking slightly more credible than before.

Today the U.S. media reported that there had been a leak from the Pentagon about a secret Presidential order in which President Bush authorized his military (most of which is currently on Afghan soil) to conduct operations in Pakistan without the necessity for informing the Pakistani government. The U.S. military in Afghanistan - or shall we say in the whole region neighboring Iran - is getting a freer hand by the day. And it is getting more and more hardware to play with.

Of course it's quite clear now that Georgia has lost its immediate potential as a nearby airfield, but after all, the aircraft carriers in the Gulf are not so far away.

Believe me I'm not saying that the U.S. is going to start an all-out war against Iran tomorrow. But aren't there indications that it may happen the day after tomorrow, a month from now, or on any date before the official handover of Presidency in the U.S.? Or, as some suggest, before the election?

I'm just asking the questions. But there are some people, like those working for Izvestia, for instance, who answer them with a "yes".
